"Oh! Sure you found my secret underwater habitat!

Oh wow you actually found that one. Let me read your post again to see if it was 200 ft offshore in the West Passage :);)

I'm curious as to whether anyone has found out any additional information about this find. For example, what year it was put out there, was it ever used, has anyone tried to dive it since refinding it, etc.

Strangely enough, I just dove it tonight after work with my buddy Matt!

The guy I found it with (another Matt, but not the one I dove with tonight) went out last week and put a small white marker float on it. The float sometimes gets submerged so you can't always see it. However, he also put a white nylon line from one of the dock pilings near the north end of the pier to the habitat.

The habitat itself is covered in hydroids. The main hatch is open so you can see right inside. The interior has filled up with a ton of silt. It is pretty small. Probably not much more than 10 feet long.

I had my camera but it was getting dark so it was hard to get any good ambient light landscape shots. The only decent shots I got were macro shots with the flash. The first two bad pictures are the top of the habitat. The third is the opening of the hatch. The fourth is of some tunicates growing inside the hatch. The last one is the hydroids that were covering the exterior.

Send us a picture of the habitat sometime. We don't belive it exists.

Actually those pics didnt do justice to the poor habitat. Your giving it a bad name. How can we launch a big dive expedition to the habitat unless we really get good pics. It going to be hard to fill up the boat and convince a charter to go there.

But those other pics were awsome and what were those sea squirt things with the flourescent lips ? It looks like a nice fundive.

Hope to be out there very soon.

Chris

Oh what pretty, pretty tunicates.

ScubaSarus:
what were those sea squirt things with the flourescent lips ?

It is a species of tunicate/sea squirt called Ciona intestinalis. The common name is Sea Vase.

i should go throw a lift bag or 2 on it and move it around a little and have fun with you guys :)
