Hi, folks, I'm working on a project that involves placing a fairly large (17") laptop screen along with some batteries, and other equipment under water (up to maybe 40') and have been searching endlessly for clear, watertight boxes without much luck.

I've found medium size boxes (maybe 5x7x3) from underwater kinetics and some smaller device boxes from otterbox, but these appear to be too small and/or consumer-grade. Any advice/pointers/places to search would really be appreciated.

You would probably have to build it; look at aquarium builders. Some large aquariums have to hold in a lot of water.

you should watch a show called tanked. In one of there episodes they show them building and in-closer to put flat screens inside an aquarium. maybe it will give you some ideas.

You can use non-conductive oil inside the clear container. Will keep sea water out (being denser) so if your container has a small hole somewhere, no big deal - nothing to displace, there will be no air. You could use a balloon. Will also serve as a heat sink.
You don't want a leak that will let oil out of the bottom and allow sea water in.
It could be an open aquarium with a saran-wrap cover. The oil won't compress by much.

Also consider just getting a cheap 19" widescreen computer monitor with an hdmi plug and a 50' hdmi cable. Keep the electronics, except the screen, on the surface.

Now to understand "why" - you want to show a particular species how to reproduce by showing video of said species in the act of procreation?
It worked for the pandas - panda porn.
