What is the use for blindingly bright lights? Night, or low visibility? (Where I dive we night dive without lights when we can so that's something different.)

Yes just how bright does a light have to be to be bright enough its getting crazy, will they come with high and low beam so as not to dazzle other divers;-}

I have a DIY 1000 odd lumen light and I find it just about right. And yes it does have high and low beam (Also medium).
Different diving environments require different light output. I wouldnt want to penetrate a cave or wreck with only a 200 lumen light. Nor would I want to do a night dive in murky water with only 200 lumen.

actually what we need are the dimmers on our masks like the ones for rear view mirrors.

LOL Where I do most of my diving is close to zero vis...at best 10' so brighter is better for me....and the recharegable battery is great no need to pack a bunch of batteries when I travel. and it 299.00 thats in my range for a non cable light. I had a cable light(dive rite 18watt) HID If I remember right....but they take a bit to warm up to max brightness and I normally dont use a light for my entire dive just when i want to look at somthing in piticular.

Well I guess to each his own, my home ground is the St Lawrence river in Canada mostly diving wrecks around Kingston and Brockville including wreck penetration and night dives, Vis can get very close to zero at times although the average would be 15 to 20 ft and find 500 lumens more than adequate, but hey thats just me like I already said to each his own.
