Don't mean to hijack this thread but I could use similar info.

I am coming in on American Eagle from Sea-Houston-San Juan- Bonaire. I know the typical weight restrictions for American Airlines (2 50lb bags plus carry on) but am not sure about American Eagle. I worried that it is a puddle jumper flight with minimal allowances.

Does anyone know what is allowed for these flights?
Maybe you know Liz?

Thanks!

The couple of time I flew on DAE in transit from Miami (American) then CUR-BON, they seemed to let me away with 50lbs with no charge as I was making an international connection....not sure if i was just lucky or having the international connection relaxes their rules.

I'm heavily leaning toward flying Insel Air and finally found their baggage iofo. It looks pretty stringent with no carry-on allowed.

Max baggage allowance for flight is 30 KG in low season and 20 KG in high seaon with 1 Hand luggage NOT EXCEEDING 5 KG.
Max baggage allowance 20 KG and no Hand luggage on board or flight between Curaçao-Aruba / Curaçao-Bonaire / Curaçao-Las Piedras

It does not state how many checked bags are allowed (I am hoping for two).

I tried to email them but it was returned as undeliverable. Does anyone have a valid email address for theM? I tried information@fly-inselair.com

It is a puddle jumper but no worries. The plane to Bonaire is one of those 2x2 seat overhead wing turbo-props. Smaller inside than even the commuter jets. So some airline-approved sized bags are still too big.

What you do at the AE terminal is board the tram for the plane with your carry-on and they'll check it planeside if it's too large. But they don't always mention that in the boarding call.

So get what you need out before you board the tram as the propwash from all the other departures makes it difficult out there. The overhead bin on the plane is only good for a small duffle or laptop bag.

They said to recover our bags planeside in Bonaire but the AE people brought them in with all the other luggage. Don't know how it is now but three years ago customs and immigration on Bonaire was a nice woman who said "welcome to Bonaire" and pointed to a door.

Through it was the parking lot...:D

DvrRick ... oops ... sorry I missed that you had already said it would be InselAir! And after all that I can't help you because I have only ever used DiviDivi and the now extinct Bonairexel. If they are like Bonairexel was when they list their maximum on the website it is the total for all your bags, not for each bag so that 20kg is tops.

kgdiver ... your checked baggage maximum for American Eagle is the same as for American. sjspeck gave you a good description about your carry-ons. The Eagle flight to Bonaire is very weight sensitive and it is not unusual for someone's luggage to spend an extra day in San Juan during busy season so pack accordingly. Also, it departs from a very small and crowded section of the airport so pay close attention to the gate announcements so you do not miss the shuttle to the plane. This temp can fluctuate and is often quite chilly so plan on having something long sleeved for comfort. On the return from Bonaire be sure to get to the airport at least two hours prior to departure. Again, if it is high or busy season there are times when the last folks in line do not get on the plane. We often check in then go back to our accommodation for a shower and coffee before returning to the airport to return the rental truck and go through security. Hope this helps.

I have flown on DAE twice ans they are very strict on checked baggage weight.

You are limited to 20 kg per person total regardless of the number of bags. Over that amount and they charge you per kg.

I flew two years ago from AUA --> CUR then CUR --> AUA and got bagged both ways.

On both those fights they did nto weight carry-on luggage even though there is a weight limit for carry-on.

Last year I flew BON --> CUR on DAE and they imposed the same restrictons/charges.

I'd rather deal with more restrictive weight limits than take (try to take) American Eagle out of San Juan. Pack the travel size shampoo, essential dive gear only, fewer clothes and a little Woolite, avoid San Juan.

No one has brought up Divi Air. We flew with them round trip from Cur to Bon. I dont think they ever weighed our bag. I dont pay over weight charges on Continal Air but I know we were over on 2 bags. Divi never said anything. They were on time and very easy to deal with. I also got to ride in the Navagators seat in front, I thought that was cool, and got some great pics. Also you dont pay until you arrive, just verfy by email a few days before you arrive and bring the reply email.
