Hi there

I'm thinking of buying my first BCD and I want it to be as future proof for my scuba needs as possible.
One of the the things i'd consider is using twin sets.

I like the look of the Scuba Pro BCs and I not there is something called a Bebo adapter that allows the use of twin sets - anyone have experience with this?

AP valves also seems to make something similar for their jackets

anyone have experience with these of would advice what BCs would allow twin set use?
I'm thinking jacket BCs for the moment

you might consider something along the lines of the Halcyon Infinity BC system. It can grow with you as far as you could possibly want to go, but will be very comfortable for the here and now... it is a very slick piece of kit and i regularly go between diving it with doubles and putting it on single tanks.

The backplate and wing setup can certainly do doubles. A Zeagle ranger can handle doubles as can the diverite transpac system.

I don't know if any current scubapro bc has the lift capacity you would want for doubles.

If you're going to fool proof any future diving you need to get some sort of backplate and wing setup. Whether it's a HOG Harness, Transplate type system, or a Transpac type system, that's up to you, but I wouldn't get a jacket bc... I haven't seen anyone dive doubles in a jacket... I know they used to, but that was a while ago...
Dive Rite EXP TransPac Package [EXPTPpkg] - $585.00 : Cave Adventurers!, We will NOT be undersold!!!
Something like that, or similar with a stainless or aluminum backplate...

Backplate and Wings - Backplate and Wing Packages -- Save Big!!!! - Dive Rite Doubles Package - Northeast Scuba Supply
Or something like that... Can't beat hte price on either of them...

I'm always worried about the wing set up that as someone who's done about 10 dives to date that i'll wont be able to handle a wing or will look a little bit silly.

My brother is law is a professional diver so I might see If I can try on his tech gear and see if it suits.

Thanks all

We put our OW divers in Halcyon Eclipse 30's with SS Backplates and HOG Harnesses from day 1... You'll be fine. Odds are you'll end up looking better, and dear lord will you feel better...

I wouldn't use that twin band thing... That's just asking for trouble. It's one thing if you want to dive doubles and have to travel and won't be able to have a manifold, but that's not a daily use thing, nor a long term option

Oh there are scubapro bcs that have enough lift for doubles. But I;d never put any on em. They are not designed for that. Use the right tool for the job. A singles recreational bc jury rigged to hold doubles is not the right tool.

The inflater hose controls are no different an on a conventional BC. The back dumps are positioned a little different. Suffice it to say that the learning curve is less than one dive. Since you have limited prior experience, probably less.

No wing will be ideal for diving singles and doubles. The raw capacity and how they wrap to the cylinder(s) will vary. Drag and venting issues can result.

If you go with a modular plate & wing system you can "upgrade if you want to.

The reality is that once you get doubles with bands and a manifold the $$ of a dedicated BC begins to be small money. Also most divers never achieve the need for doubles.

Be careful that you are no overly complication the now with over the top speculation for your future.

The KightHawk have 55lb fit and the fittings to dive doubles, however as highlighted by other members it's not the right tool for the job. Save yourself a bucket load of money and get a plate and wing from the begining. The BP/W vendors are all pretty much good and it should be a choice of what you like and cost. A lot of divers prefer Halcyon , other will shoot it down due to cost. My 2 cents, it's the best out there.

The problem with 'future needs' is that they will change ;)

If money is no concern and you want to buy new, the Halcyon Infinity is indeed a fine piece of gear that can grow with you into tech diving (more $$$ for larger wing).

If you want to buy used, save some cash for regulators, etc. and get into the water soon, a Scubapro Classic or Glide can be found for little money on fleabay every week.

I am currently putting togther a pick-and-choose BP/W rig and I can guarantee you that I will have another 10 -15 dives logged on my used Scubapro Classic Plus before the BP/W is even close to getting wet.

The flexibility of the BP/W system is also a curse. Stainless or aluminum plate? large plate or small plate? HOG harness or? single tank adapter or anti wobble wing? what wing lift? what wing? Once you have decided, you still have to scrounge the stuff together and dial it in.

If you get a jacket BC keep in mind that they do not need to be inflated to puffer fish dimensions to safely support you on the surface. I noticed that a lot of folks buy them too big. If it still fits with 3, at most 4, deep breaths blown into the inflator hose, it is big enough. Depending on your lung volume that will put you between 30 and 45 lbs of buoyancy from the BC.

Regardless of whether you go jacket BC or BP/W spend some time figuring out what the minimum safe weighing is for you. You do not want to fight the variable buoyancy of an air bubble that you do not need in the first place.
