Really? That's very interesting.
Are you sure you are in a proper horizontal trim when you are swimming?

With paddle fins, I think I stir up the sediment at 5~6ft above the bottom doing a full power kick, but with my Atomic split fins I can get within 2~3 feet without disturbing the bottom with the flutter kick.

My observation has been that the vortex from split fins is generated towards the rear, and there is only a small amount of horizontal water movement, certainly not enough to go several feet.

If the swimmer is slightly feet down, then any flutter kick will stir up the bottom a lot.

I think she's right: The split fins push water back, not down - actually better than paddle fins. Ask your dive buddy to check your horizonal pitch. Some divers just need to move weights to their tank bands to level out.

I'm a guy.
But I'd be curious why you thought otherwise so I can avoid misleading anyone else. :D

I glanced at your Username, and made a mistake. Can't read too good, I guess. HOWEVER, if it happens again, you could starting signing "PAUL" below your post. BUT IT'S REALLY HELP IF I'D PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS, HUH?

I use them about half the time. I swim with the currents here in BC not against them. The other half the time I use Force fins, that’s another topic.

The split fins take less effort to kick and yes are not as good in heavy current, something I plan around. We have currents in the 10+ knot range here If I’m being carried away, I surface put up my safety sausage and wait for pick up, not bag myself trying to swim against it.

If you are swimming against allot of current rethink your dive or buy big solid paddle fins.
