hi all new to diving and about to puchase my gear , was looking at the tusa platina reg and octo but my lds says it is a crapy reg . was just looking for 2nd oppinion
thanks

It's a perfectly good reg. ANY reg you buy will be a good reg. I'd suspect that your LDS doesn't sell Tusa products, ergo, they are "crapy". Not true.
That being said, I'm not sure I'd buy one. MY LDS owner has one and he swears by it--says it's a beautiful breather. Since I'm the one who serviced it last, I can state definitely it's a good breather (and not because of anything I did--it's just a nice breather). However, they could have designed the second stage with about half the parts and done the same thing.

...the british dive mag : divernet.com is a good source of gear reviews, I know they've tested 'Tusas' over the years, I'd visit there for more info.....also, scubadiving.com (a US dive mag) does the same thing and I know they've also tested 'Tusas' over the years. It is my understanding that TUSA (an Asian company) actually manufactures much of the scuba gear out there and many of the major gear brands selling under nmae brand names are really just rebranded Tusas...ie, I believe Scubapro has their regs manufactured by TUSA......and some TUSA regs are really just Scubapro clones, Scubapro lets TUSA 'have' the designs for it's older regs to sell under Tusa's own brand name.

thanks for the help . my lds just made me a heck of a deal on a sp mk11 setup but really thank you for the advice
