I have an MK25 50th anniversary edition that I'd like to keep for a long time. Mainly because I like shiny things. Is it technically feasible to turn this into an MK25 Evo? I know roughly speaking that the Evo has a blue coated spring and a plastic enclosure in it. But feel like I need to figure out what is involved (or if it is even feasible) at a greater resolution before I go talk to someone about this.

Thanks!

The blue spring is available from scubagaskets, or a SP service tech
It provides slight improvement for cold water resistance, nothing more

What plastic enclosure?

As lex said, no real upgrade except aesthetically — just use as is

No. AFAIK, the threads in the body and cap are different. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Unless you dive in 45° water, there's no reason for you to upgrade. The EVO was SP's latest attempt to eke a few more SCFM out of a design that already has more flow than you need, and to try "one more thing" to reduce the icing that has plagued this design from day one.

Just enjoy your 50th Anniversary Edition reg. It's a great performer. There will  always be a newer, "better" reg next year. Except they're only rarely much better.

I do occasionally venture into waters in the 40F range. Not regularly but often enough.

In that case, here’s the closest (to you) public source for it Service Parts (I have no affiliation or experience with them)

Alternatively Spring for Scubapro MK20 MK25 1st Stage as part no 01.020.225 in the EU, (not sure if this is an OEM part)

Or go to a SP shop, and ask them to order it for you with next service

Thanks! While I do plan on servicing my own regs at some point, I wouldn't have minded doing this at a shop. Especially cause well this reg is kind of rare and shiny. Last time I talked to a shop the tech started talking about how I'd only need the spring if I was doing "ice diving".

He refused to explain what that meant in terms of temperatures. I think @rsingler's 45F is a good number to quantify that. Looks like I have had 16 dives this year where the temperature was <= 45F. So definitely happy to go back there or somewhere else where they can do that.
