Late arrival to this thread!

When onboard Odyssey in Oct. 2003 we were told that air evacuation to Australia was their preferred option with a bend.

I have DAN and it gives peace of mind.

Also, Nitrox is the standard on Odyssey, which is the best insurance against the bends IMO. You can order any mix you want between 21 and 40, 30 being the usual.
Most dives are between 80 - 120 ft, but as another poster has said, there are excellent dives below 160ft. The holds of the SF Maru for example.

If you do opt for Blue Lagoon I believe a third dive in the day is available with advance notice being given.

Safe diving,

Seadeuce

Oh! If you want to get to Peleliu I would definitely agree that in advance (before booking) the liveaboard. We were let down by an operator, who is still there, back in '96. Two AOWs aboard and the rest of us had to pay the price of "not going where the current is".

Yes there are more than enough wrecks above 130ft you could dive for months just doing them.....However to me it seemed the shallower wrecks have been stripped of most aftifacts, although you can penetrate and search usally finding some interesting stuff also they seem to be in a worse state in general. Maybe im biased tho, my favorite wrecks being the Aikoko and San Fran.
If you are not trained to do decompression dives I would advise you not too, dive to your ablity and training level. Doing deco dives entirely on air is not too fun either. All my deep dives where done with air as bottom gas and rich mixes for deco.
Re: drop tank, ive seen blue lagoon and other day boats take tanks down and put them beside where they hook on to the wreck, which is common practice on the deep wrecks. I carried all my own gas except 100% which was on drop line. But on most wrecks i think they will have a drop tank at 5m. Check that it has gas in it as i noticed that none had pressure gauges on them....
Re:peleliu, I didnt think the currents here where strong at all!! to tell the truth i was dissapointed they where so weak, blue corner has a moderate current but nothing over the top, you will need a reef hook tho.
That sucks you wernt taken there what liveabord where you on?
While hooked on at blue corner i watched 6 muppet divers come crashing along trying to hang on with there hands!!
Pilot as a former marine im sure you know the history of peleliu, theres a man made harbour there where my liveaboard anchored for a couple nights. Theres alot of war artifacts on land and if you dive along shore near harbour there are landing craft completly coral encrusted, pretty cool.

I think I'll stick to the wrecks at 130ft and above this trip. Since I'm not qualified to do deco dives I'm guessing I should avoid it. Since I'm going alone I have no idea whom I'll buddy with, or what the procedures are there also.

What is your impression of Blue Lagoon Hotel and dive shop?

Yes, a bitter battle was fought on Pelielu by the US Marines and Japanese. Would like to see that site but doubt I''ll get over there from Yap or Truk this trip.

Thanks for the info.

I like Blue Lagoon. The meals are very slow but it is a very peaceful resort. Lots to see above 130'. You can buddy with the DM. The dive shop was great, very professional.

I just got back to Canada from a 3 month tour of Asia and I was in Yap again to see Mike. LOTS of Mantas. Great hotel.

pilot fish:
Yes, I have PADI dive ins. You're right, go no place to dive without it.

I have never done a deco dive before but might attempt it if all the elements are right. I'm told they hang tanks at 5m, 15ft, for your safety stop? I'm also told that there is plenty of wrecks to see at 130 ft and above?

pilot fish...as a certified tech diver i would suggest that if youre not trained in deco procedures trying such a thing in truk of all places would not be my first choice even if u do have insurance coming out your ears. good way to ruin the rest of your holiday.
if u have the time and well the deneros get certified in deco procedures prior to going.
seen to many bad things happen
just my 2 cents

take care

How long did you stay at Blue Lagoon Hotel, Dennis? Were you able to get served breakfast in enough time so you could dive? That has me concerned because that is an important meal for divers - need the fuel to stay alert and warm :) Can you do a
3rd afternoon dive?

Great to hear I can buddy with DM. That is reasurring to hear. One stupid thing, do you tip DM is that neck of the woods? Did I hear that in some places it's an insult?

Thank you guys for the feedback because I'm totally on the blind on this one.

Yap is another story because I hear very positive things about it, plus I'm meeting a dive buddy there after I dive Truk
