Tropical Storm Grace

Tomorrow should be a good indicator of what to expect from the latest port captain for the upcoming El Norte season later this year.

Do they take any special precautions for a tropical storm, like removing palapa roofs or taking boats out of the marina, as they do for hurricanes? I've been on the island for a couple gnarly nortes but never a full blown TS or hurricane.

Boats will come out of the water for a hurricane and Grace is now predicted to be a CAT 2 when it nears the Yucatan. We were there last year for a CAT 1 and got evacuated from Cozumel Palace to Playacar Palace. Everyone stay safe!

Should be just fine in the North. South end will get the easterly side of the storm with wind, rain and wave action. Out of commission day of storm and diving next day with poor vis and some churned up water.

Grace is now predicted to be a CAT 2 when it nears the Yucatan.

By whom?

There is no way to know for sure where it will land and how strong the winds will be, but I cannot find any source suggesting winds stronger than 85 mph - Cat-1. Still, we won't know for sure until the wee hours of Thursday.

Flooding is generally the bigger threat.

Palapa roofs are part of the permanent structure. They cannot be removed prior to a hurricane. We just replaced ours in April, hoping it weathers the storm.
