Well a little update from the dives on Sunday since Charlie and Kristi had to leave early on Sunday. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome into the group and letting me stay with you all and saving me 45 minute drive each way from my usual staying place in NFL. The food, conversation, company, and diving was great.
Sunday morning Mel, Marci, and myself went to ginnie cavern to check things out since they did not get to see it the day before with all the O/W students that were there. A big congrats to Marci for all the weight she took off and she made huge jumps in her bouyancy control. By the end of the day she had gotten her fin technique vastly improved and I have to give her the vote for most improved diver from the weekend. Mel worked her tail off all weekend with different dive gear and I must say she had the patience of a saint when I kept giving her something new to try. In the end I think she got a good idea of what equipment she wants. We had a very nice dive in the cavern and got cylinder preassures down so we could check for proper weighting.
The second dive was more about swimming around and having fun, Mel bought an underwater camera and I hope I got some good shots of both Mel and Marci as well as looking out from just inside the cavern. I had given Mel a different mask to try and unfortunatly it had a leak through the frame and her dive was cut short. In the afternoon I had to drive back over towards the peacock area to get a trimix fill so I did not get any dives in the afternoon. I am sure Marci or Mel will post about their dives.
Monday I drove to CR and met up with some friends down from NY. They are finishing some mix classes and could not dive with me but we got together in the evening. I went to the nest a little later then planned but was rewarded with perfect timing and got in the water as the last team was getting out. This was a down stream dive and was just perfect. The water was warm, the viz was great, and the dive was smooth. When I got into the deep section it was a solid reminder to respect diving and not become complacent seeing all of the line laying around from the last incident there last year that took the lives of two very capable and experienced cave divers. Since I was not set up to have this dive be a working one I left the line and other debree. I may be back in a couple of weeks and will set up to clean it up when I come back. Again thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and great company.
