SWITCH THE FLOW? When does this happen?
NEWS FLASH...
Chiefland was sucked into another dimension today when the springs at MAnatee Springs began moving backward! Six divers, three swimmers, a dog, two cales and a razorbacked hedgehog were violently swallowed up by the Earth when the flow reversed in the main spring draining the Santa Fe River to minimal levels.

Actually,... I HAD heard in a class I took on local geology years ago about how this can happen. It was kind of cool and scary all at the same time. Reversed spring flow that is. It seems that the pressure topside is greater than the pressure underneath, in simple terms, and the river pushes back into the lower magnitude springs. There was a really cool computer animation on this, but I can't remember who offered the class. It was through UF back in the mid 90's. I attended the class at the Museum of Natural History with a friend, but I want to say it was USGS that gave the class. It was focused on Florida formations, cave and springs stuff. She got credit for the course, I got credit with her for attending. :) It was also a VERY cool class!
