Dove Travis dam side, dropped down the "jail" and hit mud at 129 feet as reported, swam out accross the dam and found a level spot of 135 feet, vis from 0 to the first thermo was bad, 4 feet, on the bottom it was spotty, in some places it was 3 feet in others it was 5 or 6, various trees and such were up against the dam, saw a shopping bag and a sun visor, then the usual mud and beer can formations.

Second dive was at windy point public, parked ON the dry lake area, vis down to the first thermo was 3 feet, after second a little better, under the thermo around 90 feet vis was 8 to 10 but very spotty zig zagging through the trees max depth was 102 it went deeper, I tried to stay withing the "good viz zone", saw the usual beer can and also found a large diameter pipe about 5 feet long beside a bouy

Fin Reivew: OMS Slipstream size XXL

I've tried a few fins, yes even split fins, I normally dive XL Jets wet and Turtles Dry and wear a size 10 rock boot.

First thing I noticed with the Slipstream is in fact they were quite powerful, not a LOT more powerful than the turtle but enough to notice, they had a powerful "snap" at the end of the kick that easily pushed the drysuit/doubles through the water, their push wasn't as uniform and smooth as the turtle but thats no big deal. They fit my size 10 rock boots like they were MADE for them, much better fit than the turtle. When I went motionless to hover, my feet would slowly swing over my head (head down, feet up) until I was verticle in the water, very slowly, it was not a problem unless I hovered motionless, slipstreams actually float, but switching them to spring straps would probably have made them neutral and eliminate the float problem or simply move my wing, either way the bouancy was not enough that it was a problem diving them dry as is.

Pros:
Very powerful
Fit my boots like a glove

Cons:
I've already got a lot of money in other fins :)

I give em 5 out of 5, I will own a pair some day

Thanks for the report and bonus fin review. We just started carrying the OMS fin in stock with spring straps. After you mentioned them here on the board before your cave trip a month or so ago, I started getting calls and emails about them. I now have a dozen in stock with only one set of spring straps and the rest will come in when they get off of backorder. OMS has been taking a more aggressive approach to markeing their product lately and I think we will be carrying more of their stuff in stock the deeper we get into tech, no pun intended.

I too was out at the public side Sat and Sun. We hit the bottom at 131 heading out to the river channel. Vis was pretty good around 10-15 ft in spots. Temp was not too bad as well around 60. It warmed up quickly as you ascended.

Hi FIXXERVI6

Believe we saw you at Mansfield Dam on Saturday. I was one of the students up there doing the adv. nitrox class.

we record 53 deg F at about 114 ft at the Dam. Went to Windy Point Sunday and got down to 123 ft and the temp was about 57 deg F. Viz at that depth was surprising, the HID lights penetrated quite nicely

I have not been to Travis in over a 'good month'....do you have to rent a 'pack mule' to trevers the down dam area from the parking lot??? LOL

Please try not to HIT the bottom. It does not help the vis............:D

Saturday, hehe, if I was the guy going up and down the stairs red faced dripping and ripping off drysuit material as I hiked back and forth up the stairs then ran for the showers swearing about the heat, yea that was me, sucked it up hiked all the way down to the water and my drysuit inflation blew so I had to go back up and get a hose, thought I was going to pass out about a 3rd of the way up so ripped my top down.

Where you at the site that has the nice grill/smoker with the pavilion?

James and I went down the stairs by the dam, did the dive, came backup up left the gear and walked back up after the dive taking only the expensive stuff, then went back after several hours to get the gear, didn't want to "shake the soda" coming up those stairs, insane.
