Probably depends a little bit on exactly where you are staying on Marathon but i used to camp in Curry Hammock state park on the north (or east) side of Marathon and drive to Conch Republic on Tavernier, which is a little further than you're going. I left 45 minutes before check in time and was always early

Thanks! I'm a bit OCD about timelyness so maybe we'll leave allow an hour for travel. I plan to be early then, if I m late, I might still be on time....

Never been there...yet! So many places to see....

I'm figuring on allowing an hour for travel. Should do the trick.
You're not missing much for diving. I dove here because my addiction demanded to be scratched.

Key West is pretty cool, but very touristy (read: expensive and over-rated) in my opinion. Good place to watch people and grab a meal, though.

We figure we'll do our diving in Marathon and Islamorada, and go to Key West to check out the people. A co-worker tells me it is kind of like going to Wal-Mart to people eatch, just way more expensive, lol.

Don’t forget Looe Key for some of the best diving in the Keys. Crazy cool.

Most of the Keys operate on mileage markers. Add either Bay side or Ocean side and you can find most any shop until you get to Key Weird, er West. Calculate about 45 mph and you’ll do fine unless there’s an accident.

Thanls Chairman. Using mile markers makes sense on such a linear liece of real estate.

We'll use the 45mph guide for our calculations of time.

Cheers!

It's how the locals do it and until September of this year, I was a local. Have fun and please don't forget to post a trip report with lots of pics... especially if you go to Looe Key. If I had only one Key to dive on, I would choose that one. Spectacular!

Looe Key reef resort has a dive operation , give them a try .
