Well, no one really. I think the point was that often on smaller boats where the schedule calls for warm water rec dives and divers are crammed in to the gills that these huge bags take up a lot of room and that usually the people who bring them aboard are oblivious of the difficulty they cause. Many of us were guilty of this at first and have chosen to alter our cargo carrying techniques to improve stoage ability aboard for both ourselves and other divers.

I suppose there are two types of 'big baggers'. Those who don't know, and those who just don't give a s--t.

nauidiver, you said it much better than I. That's it in a nutshell

PF, I want to make you a personal challenge. You and I, are only allowed to post once an hour per thread. So, choose carefully. If you break the rule, you have to stay in Whine and Cheese...for a week.

Is that an invitation to join you in some Brie and red wine?

I dive in Florida about 10-20 times per month. I have also been to many other places. As I said... I carry my gear, and my wifes gear (I never have a buddy problem) we have Dry Suits, Clothes, BC's and Camera Equipment. Most of the boats we dive with welcome us back, and know us by name. We even get great discounts, since we're such valued customers.

As for being considerate of other divers. I am very considerate towards everyone. I am sharing of snacks at SI, and always there to help someone switch a tank if the DM is busy. I have helped make gear repairs, and I also show visitors around on our favorite reef sites.

If there's a boat that won't take me with the gear I require, then I would find another boat.

That does sound considerate. Glad to hear that, Howarde.

You forgot the third kind...

Those who care about having all of the gear they purchased for the sport they love..

I am not going to sacrafise my equipment so somebody can streach out a little more. I am not going to be inconsiderate, my bag rolly bag is stowed properly every time and as far out of the way as possiable.. I will not sacrifise have my gear, so somebodys boat ride will be a minute bit less crowed!! I am on that boat for the dive...not the ride.. I want to be comfortable in the water... That is what I am paying for..

We care about all the gear we bought too but we're not going to ask for SPECIAL treatment for our gear. My gear is just as important as your gear but I will not crowd your space or leave my bag, or gear, in the aisle for another diver to trip over.

One diver here was carping about how much his gear cost,[ $500 computer -whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :) ] and he wanted to protect it at all costs and if that meant he'd have to take a large luggage bag onboard so be it, and TS on you. ahemmm, the two computers I use cost $1000 total and I dont feel that my gear is any more important than your gear. I'm not special, and neither are you and he. We are all trying to have a good dive and sharing common space. BE COJNSIDERATE.

cbsaw, I agree. We do have an interest here, people. Consideration is fine but are entitled to bring what we use. I have minimalistic gear but a big camera and I NEED that roller bag. 500 dollar computer, PF? Thats nothing. A little Suunto costs more than that. I can tell you this, I'm not about to mention the dry wetsuit I bring for the second dive...oops, I just did.

Ironcat:
I don't think anyone can use the excuse "noone told me".

Ironcat, I couldn't agree more. On my first boat dive, I took it as MY responsibility to find out what is appropiate and expected. With that said people simply don't know nor take the time to know. I do lots wrong and appreciate someone helping me by pointing out how to improve (when its done the proper way :D ).

$500 computer is not a lot, which is MY point. Mine cost about $1100, for both I use. Please reread my post.

Have another cup, dear Catherine.

You are considerate and that is all people ask. You took the time and had the consideration to ask.

Dear Pilot Fish....

Rude is not the objective on this post, which is what you are being. I am a NEW diver and LOVE my gear and will not sacrifice my dive for your comfortable "ride" which sounds as if this is the only reason you are on this boat. Remember, most divers are considerate. Sounds as if you have a beef with someone in particular, lets not take it out on the rest of us. You made your point, end of discussion!
