Transpac II Problems - Tank Banging Head

To use the sex bolts, you may need to grind away the welded studs in the STA.

I hope Gar doesn't mind me using his thread for this...
but which kind of studs are we talking about? Unfortunately none of the LDSs sell STAs of any kind. Since my problem isn't massive I am reluctant to start ordering STAs, so I am waiting for my next trip to St Lawrence or the likes where I know techie shops will have a few to look at and maybe fit hands on before purchasing. Which STA do you have or have experience with? I thought there would be just the attachment holes in the ends of the STA? I am definately getting one-piece, and I need it to have the slots for straps. From pictures I can't figure what studs you might have meant...

These pics may give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

My understanding is that all STA are more or less the same in shape, but materials may vary, for example, DR makes a fiberglass lightweight STA.

Ok - I got a response for Dive Rite. They suggest,

"Try moving your top cam band as low as it will go on the tank – this is usually right to the shoulder of the tank. If that doesn’t fix your problem you might want to try a lower profile regulator configuration (maybe try DIN valves with DIN regs)."

Unfortunately - if I have to replace something - it will be far more economical to replace the BC not the regulator.

Not quite the answer you were looking for but here is what I did:

After looking long and hard and TPs and OMS IQs I decided to just get a plate and STA instead. None of the "soft packs" seemed to have the durabilty (by visual inspection and looking at older ones people had) or the interchangabilty of a straight BP. You can always put the DR comfort type harness and a pad on a BP.

BTW I got 2 plates and STAs from Hammerhead, they look great and only $100 each with STAs.

Interesting. They have a nice website. What aircell do you use? Where did you get the tank bands? Do you have a picture of your setup?

I own a used TPII size M/L harness with travel wing. I also had the same problem when I secure the top tank strap on 80cf tank. What I noticed on the top tank strap slot when compare agianst my friend's size S harness is the location of the tank strap slot is located approx 1 inch lower than size M/L harness. What I did initially was to place the tank strap as low as possible to hold the shoulder of the tank but it gets very irritating after a few dive trips. I am not sure if it is a design flaw for older TPII harness.

To overcome the problem, I brought my harness to one of those shop that sells army/camping equipment/accessories and provide sewing of canvases/pvc sheets in Beach Rd (I am staying in Singapore). I just request the shop owner to reposition the tank strap slot further down and seal the original tank strap slot. It will solve the problem.

Naw, my TP2's only a year old, and I've got the upper camband stuck as far up as it'll go. It's also a size M/L. I chalk it up to a design flaw. I may go back to my old ScubaPro X-Tek. My opinion with the TP2 has been a mediocre one, despite the rave ratings.

This sealing of the upper slot area sounds interesting. Could you embelish a bit more?

While I don't have a problem with the tank banging on my head (although I did notice I could make rig slide forward), I have sure had some drama's getting my rigg to fit nicley. I am actually going to be catching up with the local Rep here and will pass on any advice I get regarding adjustment on the transpac.

For all TPII owner who are facing the same problem as I did. You can just get someone who has a sewing machine to make the customization. It should not take more than 40mins to get it done. Happy sewing...
