Just back from Dominica were I did 20 dives. Did not try the croch strap, but tried everything else suggested here. Unfortunately, my probem was not solved. Seems like if the top tank band was only ~ 2 inches lower this would not be an issue.

I did not try turning the tank around - which I will in November (next dive trip). I use an Apex atx 200 and will also try to invert the mounting. If none of this works - I will have to sell the BC. A shame, since other than this issue, this is the best BC I have used.

My regs are DIN so when I travel I have to use a DIN/Yoke converter which makes my 1st stage stick out much further. I set my tank up at a slight angle to my Transpac. So instead of the valve pointing straight forward I angle it maybe 15-20 degrees to the side. I have a swivel on my regulator so everything routes just fine.

I don't remember having that problem when I had yoke fittings on my regs.

Have you considered getting a STA for yout TP? Some of them push the tank further away from you, maybe there would be a compromise between wobble and head banging.

I am considering STA for my TP for another reason - I cannot get my stumpy tank low enough to trim nice (top-heavy). Dang straps have no whatsoever adjustment options. I can see that if I had a taller tank that I could put any higher I might very well have same trouble as you. Shame to throw comfy equipment away, maybe STA would be a lesser evil to invest on.

STA - single tank adapter
and I just noticed that you use Travel wing which probably will not be very agreeable with STAs :(
I have not seen that wing in person, so other people may know better? I dive TP with Oxycheq wing, and I am planning to get one piece aluminium or plastic STA to attach to the TP, so I can yank my tank down an inch or two. Some STAs don't push the tank much further from your bank but some do give you extra inch at least.

My valve has not hit me in the head but is pretty close, and I am happy I read this thread, and the comment about using DIN AND an adapter on holiday gigs. Haven't been to vacation yet but a good thing to take into account since I happen to have DIN... Maybe someone more experienced on STAs can comment?

P.S. Dive Rite sell STAs, give them a call and ask what they suggest - and will their STA work with your setup? If you are purist Dive Rite(r) with your setup they should be happy to find a solution to keep you as a user....

Thanks for the Def. Im not sure that will work in my case. As an FYI, I have emiled Dive Rite w/ a link to this thread along with an explanation of the issue. I will post agian when they respond. Seems like a few others are having the same issue.

How a STA can be installed in a soft pack like the DR TP or OMS IQPack?

My STA has 2 SS studs that are fastened with 2 wing nuts inside the "hump" of the BP.

The IQ has the option of inserting a BP inside the back pack, but the TP can't.

Am I missing something?

Is there an adapter for STA available for a soft pack bc?

I was planning to use the same bolts ie sex bolts that are used to screw the wing to the TPII. I am not really savvy with this stuff, so I was going to ask for advice from the guy who suggested the STA in the first place. I'd think wing nuts might be quite uncomfy... Happy to hear any other suggestions especially if this is a very bad idea....

To use the sex bolts, you may need to grind away the welded studs in the STA.

I got a DR TPII and have the same problem, next time I'll try the offset angle that hex92 sugested
