I'm looking to put my transmitter on a hose to keep it from being used as a handle. I'd like to run it over my shoulder and through the velcro inflator/hose strap on my BCD, as opposed to having it dangling on a short 4 or 6 inch hose.

The problem is that all the high pressure hoses I can find go from 4" - 9", then jump to 22", with nothing in between. I need about a 12" hose to run it safely through the velcro BCD strap. Is it possible to just buy two 6" hoses, connect them and then the transmitter with an air spool on the transmitter end?

I’m not sure of the SB policy on web links, though a Google search will show that custom hose lengths are available from a number of companies that would satisfy your request.

Piranha is out of stock with the 12” rubber hose but has a 12” braided hose in stock.

FWIW, the 4 and 6 inch hoses don't dangle, especially when pressurized. But if you want longer, Piranha or DGX can set you up. If something is out of stock at the moment, it will be replenished before long.

+1 on Piranha

Before buying a hose this thread might be of interest: Pictures of how to mount a transmitter using a short hose ...

I should note that I like mounting the transmitter this way because if I want to remove the reg completely the transmitter is free and clear of everything. When mounting the transmitter on a longer hose and running it through the BCD shoulder straps one has to "undo" stuff.

Personally, i think this is the worst of both worlds.

Adding a HP hose to an AI setup is adding almost all the failure points of an SPG to a system that otherwise has WAY less places to fail than an SPG does.

I have 4 years and 200+ dives with wireless AI and I have never had anyone try to use my AI transmitter as a handle. I would not compromise my setup based on that concern.

The most I might do is put the transmitter on the left side of the 1st stage, so that it is not anywhere near the tank valve knob, where somebody MIGHT be prone to try and grab.

My current single tank reg setup is using a 1st stage with a 5th LP port on the bottom. I have one reg coming out of that bottom port with the hose running under my right arm (doesn't matter if that's the octo or it goes to my mouth - I actually use it both ways, depending on whether I'm teaching or fun diving). With that arrangement, I have the transmitter on the left side of the 1st stage, but I attach the 1st stage to the tank at an angle, so the hose coming out the bottom is angled towards my right. The result is that the transmitter is angled down and to the left. I am REALLY not worried about anyone trying to use it as a handle.

Or you could connect the two 6" pieces with a quick disconnect and have a matched QD end on your SPG hose...

On the shoulder is the ideal place for the transmitter in terms of signal strength: this way it's always an arm's length from the receiver.

My inflator hose runs through the velcro BCD strap, so I can't take off the reg without removing a hose from the BCD anyway.
