Hmmm...I should know better than to use such clear and precise terms like "way down." :D It didn't really turn a lot in terms of actual movement...but I did have to put a good bit of torque on it. There were no obvious thread issues...it screwed in fine, and the o-ring was new. I let it sit under pressure for quite a while and it didn't lose anything. If you can think of anything else I should check out let me know...

40 inch pounds is fairly standard. some do 80 inch pounds. I have actually put torque wrenches on these before just because. tighten them down finger tight. a very slight twist is 40 inch pounds. just a bit more is 80. not much difference between the two as far as how much to turn the screw, maybe 1/4 turn difference between the two, but probably less. than than. 40 inch pounds is really not much more than finger tight, but it is more.

bureau13, when somebody says "way down" images of an adjustable wrench or Robo Grip pliers from a TV info-mercial come to mind, I just didn't want you to ruin your regulator. N

Yes...what Nemrod said....resist the urge to use pliers or anything of the sort on your regulator until you have no other option. My favorite regulator has scratches on it from an emergency operation I had to perform whilst on a live aboard in Truk about 15 years ago.

:D I do appreaciate that! To be honest, it sounds like I had to tighten it a bit more than is being described here, but it sat there under pressure for quite a while and didn't leak, so I think it should be OK.
