I'm 62 and just waiting to get my recently broken arm loosened up a bit more so I can get back in the water and continue my tech training. I'd recommend taking the Nitrox course for the review on gas laws, etc., as much as anything else. Using it won't hurt, it might help. The fatigue issue is being debated, but since fatigue is often mentioned as being a symptom of sub-clinical DCS, there might be something to it. In any event, this is a good excuse to get back in the gym and get into better shape, which will be good in lots of ways.

I'm going to vote with TSandM: The three adults in our herd of 4 divers all use Nitrox. I use it because I am old (63) and having an excess of O2 doesn't seem like a bad thing. It's there in the tank if my body needs it. Does it work? What do I know? I'm a retired EE, not an MD! But my doctor thought it might be a good thing...

As to the analyzer: we fill Nitrox 6 tanks at a time and each of us must be present, witness the test, and sign the tag. The way the LDS is laid out, this is a major PITA. We're on our hands an knees in the main walkway from the shallow end of the pool. I'm thinking that I will buy the analyzer, analyze the tanks when I sign them off and the others can analyze them when they use them.

Man....I just snorted water out of my nose!!!!!!

That is a great one----keep up the good work, next is DMs then instructors........

I had to laugh about the caught line. I had the same thing happen to me during my cave work. Except it was a rock at 100' and the instructor and asst. instructor both just stared at me, who was fully narced. F i n a l l y figured it out. Amazing what a few feet up does to mental clarity.

Third, or Fourth, or whatever on nitrox. It is pretty common, in my experience, for the nitrox users to be playing while the plain air folks are tired and napping.

Welcome to the Society of Excellent Elders.

Started diving at 58, now 60 and just completed Rescue and deep in Mexico that qualified me for Master Scuba Diver, also Dive Emergency Specialist . Now considering DM. Don't really expect to make a living at it but training is always worth it.

I'm zeroing in on 62 and have done my most intense diving in my 60's... much more intense than in my teens or twenties. As long as you're healthy, you're not too old! Just don't trust anyone over 90!
