Congratulations to all involved! The video is very impressive. Looks like a great initiative! How can I get into it here in Newport Beach? I'd love to get involved!

dive safe,

Jeff

Great work guys. I missed the RC training last spring but I will get it done this coming year for sure... Then I can be famous!

Finally saw it on their web site. So THAT'S what you two look like in the "real" world, Ken and Claudette! Of course I noticed Ken's calendar shot right away

The U/W footage that they've got was shot by Mr. John Manos and is of Ken Liu and I on our last checkout dive in April at the Winfield Scott wreck on the frontside of Anacapa. They also have 2 beautiful but disgusting shots of Sargassum muticum Not sure if they're going to use any of it though, hopefully they do!

Billy

Hey Billy,

I could see them using more video in the future for promoting RC. Because video uses more of our senses, people tend to respond to it better.

You guys do great work. I have especially enjoyed the stuff you have shot, edited, and added music to. Do you know if there is future plans to use more of your video in doing promotions like this for RC?

I'm guessing it could only benefit them in getting certified Reef Checkers and government funding.

Hi Kev,

As a matter of fact we are trying to put together a trip to shoot a training video. It'll probably happen at the end of Aug. or sometime in July we just have to set up a boat to take us to an island for free or real cheap.

Just viewed it again at ~7:40 AM. There was a statement by Fiona Nagle that said something to the effect that this was the first time that citizen divers were collecting data for scientists. That is in need of correction since the Catalina Conservancy Divers had been doing that for about two decades, and there may be similar groups elsewhere that have done it before them. Certainly the first time this has been done on such a large scale that I'm aware of.
