NBC came out today to Malibu and shot a segment on Reef Check California.

A segment producer received a press release from RCCA containing information about the 2-year annual report that was recently released (and the findings and methods used to survey California's rocky reefs) and she thought it was interesting, and worthy of a featurette on the morning news cast.

Fiona Nagle, the Program Manager for RCCA, Claudette and I taped the segment this morning. It should air tomorrow morning on Today In LA between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM.

Hope I didn't have any breakfast still in my teeth...

HUGE thanks to Reef Check CA for the opportunity to go in front of a camera and tell the world how much we believe in this and how much we love being a part of it.

I'll post a link to the segment here as soon as I get a copy.

Tivo time!
Kudos to Reef Check. Thanks to you Ken and Claudette (along with all of the others) for doing this work. We all appreciate it!

The U/W footage that they've got was shot by Mr. John Manos and is of Ken Liu and I on our last checkout dive in April at the Winfield Scott wreck on the frontside of Anacapa. They also have 2 beautiful but disgusting shots of Sargassum muticum Not sure if they're going to use any of it though, hopefully they do!

Who knows what will make the final cut.

We also brought in stills of Manos and Robert, Dette and some other Reefers.

We'll see. Its gonna be a 2 minute segment, and they shot probably 2+ hours of stuff.

Sorry to do a mini-hijack, Ken. Hey, Billy... is Sargassum muticum a problem over there? It isn't much of a problem here on the island.

Hey Dr. B at that spot there is a nice sized kelp forest, desolate urchin barren around the Winfield Scott rubble, and massive amounts of Sargassum muticum, here's 2 low-res screen shots of what was sent into Ch4.

I'll be at Anacapa next weekend and will definitely take note of where I see it because I'm sure I will.
