Another vote for B&B. Made 4 great dives with them last week. I was well taken care of and it worked out great with my schedule. Back at the dock by 10:00 leaves a lot of day at the end of your dives.

We had a great time with B&B in August -- my first boat dives, first warm water dives, and 10th through 14th dives altogether and they took great care (but not too much care) of us.

RobynJ:
Scuba Shack is great! They treat everyone individually and you're definitely not on a cattle boat! Equipment is top of the line, included in the price for diving, super fast 40' jet boat, hot water for showers, good food and have become great friends over the past three years! Go on their website to read just a few of the hundreds of comments at www.scubashack.com! You won't be sorry!
Oddly, this is the first person I recall having heard recommend Scuba Shack... and I've heard quite the opposite from other people that have used them.

I would recommend B&B also. Being a resident they do give great service. Shore dives are good here too. The time you'll be here the south shore will be calm from surf and you'll be able to hear the whales sing all the time. Contact me when you arrive and mabey we can hook up. My favorite night dive is Black Rock, easy in and out and lots of action...............................Aloha

I did my OW certification with Maui Dreams Dive Co. in June 2004, and my AOW with them in February 2005. I've found them to be a great outfit to work with from all points of view, especially in terms of dive instruction, equipment rentals, and shore diving.

As for boat dives, I've really enjoyed diving with Ed Robinson's, Mike Severn, and Dive and Sea.

As for where to dive, I've enjoyed shore dives at Ulua Beach and Makena Landing. I especially enjoyed a night dive at Ulua Beach last August with Tom Taylor and Aron Ellis from Maui Dreams.

Most boat dives involve Molokini (either inside the crater or along the back wall) plus some other spot. I've enjoyed all my visits to Molokini -- especially the drift dive last February during which we encountered two humpback whales! Of the various "other" sites I've been to, my favourites include the St. Anthony, Pu'u Ola'i (Red Hill), Marty's Reef, and La Perouse.

I'm going back to Maui in February during the Reading Week break. I arrive on Fri., Feb. 17 (late evening) and hope to get in as much diving as I possibly can before flying back to Edmonton on Fri., Feb. 24 (late evening). I can hardly wait!

Glad you liked them Dave. Did Christine go out with them too?

I agree with RobynJ- Scuba Shack is great. The divemasters are wonderful..they give a great breifing and point out alot of stuff underwater. They are very attentive and friendly. I really love the hot shower after the dives!

From all of your recommendations, we have been in contact with B&B. Now, from your experience, what dive site(s) would you do over and over? What shore dives should we not miss? We'll be staying at the Embassy Resort in Ka'anapali, but will have a car, of course.....

I'll fifth ... or is that sixth the vote for B&B - really good people. Their full boat, with no advertising speaks volumes... (not crowded though)

Shore diving that time of year will be mostly on the west shores as the winter surf is coming up even now and messing up vis on the northern shores. Old Airport is a really nice reef system, black rock makes a good night dive and down south I'd agree with Uncle Pug - Ahihi bay is beautiful (much better than the cove) But hey, it's Maui ... the water is warm, the vis is good so have fun!

Aloha, Tim

P.S. Any of those beach dives I'd do over and over again ...

Molokini, as conditions permit, is a site I'd like to dive over and over. Shore dives were not what I'd call 'Maui diving'. Vis was not magazine cover clear and conditions were a little rough near shore. Still, beats Oregon conditions by a long shot.

Black Rock and Honolua Bay were good. Watch the sets at Honolua and time exits and entries between. I saw the waves have their way with more than a few people.

Enjoy, it's all good.
