One of my best dive buddies is a 13 year girl. As long as you always remember to learn and think before acting you will be ok. You can IM anytime if you ever want to talk. I live in Nashville and we dive a lot of quarries since the ocean is so far away. Good luck to you in diving, school(especially high school), and your future. Glad you are a diver.

Hi Anna,
So glad to hear you are so enthusiastic about the sport. I agree with Bridget, as long as you remember to keep learning and to always think before you act... you'll do great. I am also an instructor and nothing makes me happier than to read your note.

You can also IM or email me if you ever want to chat. I live just outside Houston, TX and teach in an old rock quarry.

Best of luck to you in high school, diving, and in anything else you pursue.

This just caught my eye. I'll admit, I'm not female and I'm, unfortunatly, a long way from 13, so my comments may not be appreciated. However, I learned in my youth, that you can learn skills a whole lot faster than adults can. I'm willing to bet that if the opportunity to dive often is available to you, you will be a better diver than I am by the time you drop that "junior" off your certification.

As far as role models, I can point to a female diver at my LDS. She came from another shop that recently closed, but she is 18 and an instructor. Since the minimum age for DM is 18, she completed her DM and flew down to FL for her IE two weeks later! If your apply yourself in the next 5 years I don't see why you wouldn't be able to follow the same course.

Heya Anna,
Welcome to the Board, we're certainly glad to have you. I think the other ladies have said it, learn learn and learn some more... Make it a point to set the standard and you'll be a role model as well. Anytime your families in Florida, give me a shout, I'd love to dive with you all.

Anna, Welcome to diving. I didn't start until I was 47. But it's a blast and you'll have a lot of fun. Keep fit and IM anytime.

Thank you all! I am actually the only one in my family who dives, I had a great interest and everyone in my family doesnt want to learn to dive or cant. james, wow that is a rough outline of the plan i want for my diving career. I am trying to learn and get as many "adventure" and specialty dives under my belt before i turn fifteen so that i will be a great diver and people will want to dive with me, and so that i can have a lot of specialties and be qualified for any type of diving that i could want to do! You gals and yes even some guys are great role models and i take what you say to my heart and dont forget your experiences and advice you share with me! Thanks a lot!

Welcome Anna..and great to hear that you are one of us. I'm not that young but, i love the sport..i've been diving for over 12 yrs. and love it. if you want to chat or have any questions don't be afraid to mail me or IM me. good luck

Hey Anna, finally, someone closer to my age, (no offence meant to the older then 18 gals) I'm 15 and plan to make diving my career, my nickname in school is Scuba, go figure. My friends all say I'm obsessed and I don't deny it. Unfourtuatly, I live in Utah and do not have a lot of dive opportunities. If you have any questions or just need some advice for high school or anything don't be afraid to IM me or email. Glad to have you with us.
