What does key man have to do with this? I get key man which means I get it cheaper than the dive shop pays for it. All I said was the titans price isn't protected by aqua lung

Simple. If LDSs were offering competitive prices to all customers, then the "internet hacks" might never have gotten started. If I was getting the deals you are, I'd probably be waving the LDS banner (and the fork) also. As it is, I think buyers need to shop around to find the best deals for them. Price restrictions is a poor excuse used by some shops to coerce unsuspecting customers into buying in to an uncompetitive deal. Shops that want to compete have many ways to sweeten the deal without violating dealer agreements. Free gas and discounted service and training are things that the "online hacks" can not easily offer.

Doesn't factor awap. I'm not pushing any shop. I see value in a good shop and zero value on the internet. Doesn't matter what I get it for. I've been an instructor for many years and seldom pay for much of anything. Then again, if an online hack shop wanted to hand me gear, I'd accept it but my sense of honesty wouldn't allow me to push them because of all the gray market garbage out there so, of course I'm not being handed anything from them.

Aqualung just happened to be an adjunct to this. I was actually reacting to your attack on internet scuba retailers which are probably the principle competitor to your employer. You seem to keep equating internet and gray market which may have been pretty much true 15 years ago but just isn't true today. Today, most internet scuba retailers are authorized dealers for all of the gear they sell. And then there is the idea they are hacks, when the fact is that most of the internet dealers have a basis in local shops but very successfully expanded their business to bring good prices (and service) to many more customers. And apparently, some of them are also offering impeccable service that many LDSs would have a hard time matching. And finally, there is the concept of "gray market garbage". What it really is, is authentic quality goods that are being sold outside of the USA distributors controlled (authorized) distribution system. And sometimes the savings can be rather startling, like top brand name high performance regulators at 50% of MSRP, although I have not noticed that kind of deal in quite some time.

Why do you describe grey market equipment as "garbage"? Is my Latitude BC purchased from LP "garbage"? How would you know? I have it in front of me as I write. It looks perfectly good to me. All the correct tags, instruction manual, and warranty card came with it. Everything in English, too. I will probably send in the warranty card for no other reason than to receive a letter from Aqualung telling me that I bought "grey market" equipment. Perhaps they will inform me that the BC was stolen from an "authorized" dealer. I'll chuckle about it when I am on the Sea Emperor or searching for .50 bullets seaward of the Copenhagen.

Why should I pay $400 for the same item I get from one of the on-line dealers and paid less then $240 including shipping? The $160 difference pays for two (2) boat trips when I next go to Florida.

The AL Titan from Leisurpro is the genuine artical. Nothing I have gotten from them or several similar internet sources has been any different from the lds except for price.

Anybody paying full msrp for this stuff is cheating themself.

Nemrod did you ever buy a reg from liesure pro? and how did you go about getting it serviced?
If not what would you do to insure that the gear works the way it should.
You most likely service your own stuff, but i have never serviced a reg.
so i would have to find someone who could.

LP is my LDS in NYC. I have brought 2 sets of reg, pretty much 2 full sets of equipment from them, and bits a pieces for other online sites. They were all new, and in prefect condition. I have sent an Aeris VT3 I got from LP for a recall and had no problem with Aeris. You can alway send it LP and they will service it for you and the price for reg service is quite good.

Not all the things you buy from LP is gray market, they are an authorize dealer of oceanic, aeris, and cressi. Any LDS that would not service a reg brand they sell is just turning down money.

Hope that helps about the service issue.

There is a thread on gray market. Pretty interesting one at that

I (I) can ensure my gear works.

Yes, I have bought a Titan LX from Leisure Pro. I bought one from Leisure Pro for 269 and a second one from an ebay store for just over 200, both new, both with full warranty cards, both complete with all papers and boxes etc. Both work just fine.

Any AL dealer anywhere will service AL regulators.

Seriously, anyone with a wit about them can install an spg, and octo second and LP inflator hose. This is kinda somewhere between turning a wood screw in a door hinge and tieing a rollerskate shoelace. If that is worth over something in the range of 400 dollars savings then I guess so. I work to hard for my money to be ripped by full msrp. If I am going to give away money I have relatives and friends who need it more.

My lds is the internet. If a person were not confident then I understand, you have to feel good about what you do. I don't feel good about leaving hundreds on the table.

Yes, I service most of my own gear but there should not be a problem getting most gear serviced.
