**** Advisor Post****

Gentle people,

The staff of ScubaBoard do not consider it appropriate to discuss the policies of other cyber dive communities on SB. It would be impossible for us to moderate such a thread fairly since we are not privy to their policies. Those discussions are best conducted on the site itself rather than on SB. Consequently, a thread related to this one has been removed and this thread has been edited to remove anything that refers to any other web forum. We request that any further discussion in this thread be confined to the orignal topic of the dive shop and the boat.

On a related note, I contacted Pavan, the owner of Dixie Divers to advise him of this discussion. He was already aware of it and has declined to participate.

Any business that isn't royally kissing the behind of anyone who brings them ten customers on one day, doesn't deserve to stay in business.:11:
I TOTALLY agree. Im currently in the travel buisness myself at the moment and altho we try to kiss all customers behinds, I can assure you that one that brings us groups of guests get kissed more thoroughly. They are also quite likely to bring more buisness in the future, if treated properly. 10 customers this summer could be 20 the next..
The ones claiming they treat all customers the same is not telling the whole truth. Obviously a buisness (should) take extra care of the good customers. Its just makes sense!

MissD...I hear you are bringing my long lost stuff back from Ft Lauderdale. :) I think that's worth at least one burn for ya. :)

Thanks for that. (=

Yes, I had planned on it but something had come up and now I am not going to be able to make it down there this weekend

What stuff...where is it...will it fit in a car that already has two sets of dive gear...how soon do you need it? TLTracy (Theresa) and I are coming to Venice on September 1...if you can't get it before then, does that work for you?

aww Sept 1st is my mother's birthday. lol The ONE day out of the next couple months that I absolutely can't dive or go anywhere. :) Are you staying on the west coast over night by any chance? I could meet up the day before or the day after...

It's just a sleeping bag sized comforter, a pillow, and two towels. I'm not really in any big rush to get it back as they were all travel items.. I really hate to trouble anyone with holding on to my stuff.

I already actually told Kim to do whatever she thinks is best with it as I don't know when I'll be back down there next(prolly a month or two) and I didn't want to trouble anyone with storing it.

No, sorry, I can't stay overnight; this has to be a day trip for me. I'm happy to bring it over and give it to someone else at the toof dive if you can arrange that on your end...of course, if you don't need it between now and the next time you are over here, you could just get it then, right? I really want to see your fire poi!!

p.s. tell your mom that all of us here at ScubaBoard wish her a very happy birthday!!

Where is Dixie Divers located? (I want to avoid them on my next Florida trip.)
Instead of highlighting places to avoid, it might be better to highlight places NOT to avoid, ops like Force-E's 3 dive shops, Fill Express, and Parrot Island Scuba. There are lots of pthers, but these guys cover my neck of the woods.
I could safely make an offer to make good on any problems with any of these places - but it's not necessary since none of the owners would ever let it get that far.
In the days when I did charters, I had my off days, and every now and then and things didn't work out for my customers. But I always, --->always made it right with them before they left the Islands.

In the Deerfield Beach area, Dixie Divers pumps gas on Sundays while Fill Express still stays closed primarily to drive me nuts, so don't totally write off Dixie.

Kim,
I have yet to dive with you, but I have seen all the effort you put into getting these dive trips together. It's comendable.

After seeing how they treated you and your group I can say I will join the ever increasing group who say they will never use that boat or dive shop.

Thanks for this post showing operators that you trust and have had good experiences with. I have saved alot of these to my favs for future reference. What is amazing by this board is that alot of people will see what happened and use their power as consumers to hopefully bring about change to this particular dive operator. The fact that the owner won't even make an effort to explain here on the board, just shows that they have no excuse for the behavior. Also, if I was told I was on a boat with no radio and could not get off, my next call on my cell would be to the Coast Guard. Actually, safety equipment on board and where it stored are my first questions before and after I am on the boat. (I am in the medical field and am a little picky about that. ) Overall, this is a good lesson to dive operators, 1 bad experience and complaint can become a snowball of doom to your business, especially when it is experienced by 10 divers!

Happy and safe diving!

Hi Lives4Sharks,

Needless to say, there was a radio on board, it was just an excuse to "clear the bridge".

Here's most of my original post from ScubaBoard2, made while this 'Board was down:
"Not to mention the fact that the divemaster gave rather extensive instructions about what to do should "you be the last one on the boat, looking back at all of us at the tiki bar with the giant bowl of margarita and multiple straws waving at you". The answer? "Dial channel 16 on the radio".
Heck, a Coast Guard certified boat isn't even allowed to operate without a radio."

It is, however, rather interesting, that the captain thought that this was a viable statement to make. Maybe we should have called the Coasties - that would have certainly caused some excitement!
