Thanks for pointing that out. I stand corrected. It's not clear on the Garmin site.
yeah it was confusing to me for a long time. I tested this and yep it's an internal garmin network address only. They really should have used different syntax

Garmin just introduced some new plans and will be retiring the old ones. It looks like they’ve added some more free messages and weather forecasts and removed the annual subscription fee. I compared the new and existing base tier which is what I use and I was pleasantly surprised

Old thread but wanted to share my recent experience. I always dive with the InReach in my butt pocket. This week I forgot to remove it during a 120 m / 400 ft dive and realized of the mistake during deco. To my surprise, the case survived without any leaking despite being rated only to 100 m / 330 ft. Very happy with it!

Good to know. FYI Light Monkey makes a dry canister for PLBs (and whatever else you want) rated to 150 m / 500 ft, should you decide to make this a regular thing (I don't have first-hand experience with that canister, just sharing it exists.)

Has anyone tried using a Messenger inside a Dryfob XL? My backup computer is a Garmin and I'd like to be able to use it without opening the case. Can it get an okay signal through the aluminum? I saw the light monkey cases but $275 for a case is too much.

Highly doubt it will work inside an AL case.

Garmin sells a dive case, and it will work inside that. $79 on a Quick Look.

Update: The Messenger/Messenger Plus does NOT fit in the Garmin Inreach Mini dive case. What does work is a used Konica Minolta MC-DG1 camera case (depth rating 131ft). I took out the rubber screen guard and it gives it a little wiggle room inside. The Messenger and Mini gen 1 work great with the inreach app on Garmin Descent computers. I use a G1 and it can send messages without needing to open the case.

Old thread, I know, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents. I found the Sony MPK-THA housing is also suitable for the InReach Messenger.
I had to remove the flash hider from inside the case (3 small screws), but after that everything fits nicely. I also took off the external lens bumper to further lower the profile.
I found one new-in-box on eBay that came to my house for $25 (shipping included).

Looks like it fits well.

Just to confirm also that the messengers fit well in a DRYFOB-XL too.
  • Garmin Inreach Messenger 3.1″ x 2.5″ x 0.9″
  • Garmin Inreach Mini2 3.9″ x 2.4″ x 1.03″
  • Garmin Inreach Mini 4″ x 2″ x 1.3″
But no signal through the aluminum
The plastic should give you a signal I believe

Has the Dryfob team considered making a container that would allow something like the Messenger to sit flat inside rather than upright - sort of like a hockey puck? I realize this would require a larger diameter, but it would substantially reduce the overall profile of the container.
