Well I have answered this question from several people, in PM's and in emails. Here are my thoughts:
I reviewed my computer ( Pelagic) and have come to the conclusion that on the third
dive of Thursday is actually when I retained the original bubble in my
elbow. I told my dive buddies about it, took some ibuprofen and then pain
went away in 20 minutes. I then thought I had a muscle strain from the
current and lines while on Stetson. Thursday night I did the night dive and
experienced slight pain after the dive, but was not concerned thinking the
ibuprofen and worn off. Friday morning dive we proceeded to 75 feet for 38
minutes and I ascended at a faster pace than normal from 16 feet to the
surface. I was also holding an additional 10 pounds of weight I found on the
reef and brought it up with me. Upon exiting and sitting down still fully
geared the elbow pain was excruciating and I told the crew during the wellness
check. All my motor skills were in tact and my arm was fine except for the
pain in the elbow. A suggestion was made for 30 minutes of o2 and if I still felt pain
then I was ok but if it went away, I was bent. Well needless to say the pain
went away and I was bent. It was in the doctor's words a "minor hit". My
computer has shown two rapid ascents from 15 feet to surface on the two
dives I experienced pain. I also am showing that my safety stops were
minimal. I probably could have avoided the situation entirely with a deep
stop and longer 15- 20 foot stops and slower ascents. I thought I was doing
enough but evidently not enough for deep square profiles 5 days in a row,
multiple times a day. I have learned a valuable lesson, one I hope I will
never repeat. I thought it was a great trip and I will be back to the Flower
Gardens in the near future! All my dives were between 67 and 95 feet with times of 33 minutes to 51 minutes. The average dive was 35 minutes and between 70 and 80 feet. I do not think it had a lot to do with my computer, it was more about my lack of deep stops and ascent rate.
