Hi,

My buddy and I are thinking about going up to Brownstone. Does anyone know what the current conditions are like? The Brownstone Park website says 82 degrees, which sounds nice and warm, but I don't know how often that is updated. I saw from some other posts that the thermoclines are pretty steep. I dove Dutch Springs in a 5mm last week and I am wondering if a 7mm farmer john wouldn't be better for Brownstone.

Also, is there a detailed map any where of the attractions and depths? The map of the Park shows the diving area, but not the depths and bearings to the submerged attractions.

Any comments or info are welcome.

Thanks,

Derek

I haven't been there since last summer and there was no map at the time.

There's guidelines between some of the shallow "attractions" in the southwest section of the quarry. There's a trainign platform at around 18 feet, a Nissan pick-up, at least one small boat, there was also another boat suspended in mid-water. there was also a single engine plane in mid-water but I think that may have been moved as it was where the kayaks are currently docked in Google Earth. There's a 50 foot platform, which is below the thermocline, where it's likely 40* or less. I believe it is located due south of where the floating bridge meets the "east side" peninsula - again as viewed on Google Earth. There was a buoy that marked it.

Regarding temps, it might be 82 on the surface but it gets cold quick. My last dive shows 58 degrees at 24 feet on 8/25/12 (for comparison purposes it was 45 at the same depth on 6/30/12).

edit: they do have a map on right side - a bit rudimentary but it's something They do have a map on their site Map | Brownstone Park Connecticut - Zip Lines, Wakeboards, Rock Climb, Water Slides and Toys, Scuba and Swim I've never been to the "car" and "bus" locations . The bus should be below the thermocline. The 50 foot platform is unmarked but it's roughly where the bottom "side by side racing" zipline crosses the really long diagonal zipline

Thanks Sean, it sounds chilly, but worth a look. I will break out the 7mm :cold:
