A double-A battery that was leaking acid, on Tormentos Reef, in Cozumel. I put it in my cummerbund pocket and threw it in the trash when I got back on-board.

The trash is not the place to put a battery. There are special sites for discarding batteries.

So I should have left it on the bottom of the ocean? Especially being in a foreign country, and having no clue as to if they have special disposal for batteries, where that disposal point might be, and no way of asking. Okay... Thanks. Next time, I'll just leave it there so it can poison the crap out of everything that comes into contact with it.

Sure it is. I throw oil, batteries, nuclear waste, and human crap in my trask all the time and guess what? The world is still intact.

While working in Grand Cayman as an instructor we would always find lots of stuff like watches, rings, cannonballs, and even a pair of false teeth. Jet skiers would use tanning oils before going for a ride and that made it easy for jewelry to slip off. I even found my own watch which I had lost while coming out of my bc at the end of a dive. The next day we went back to the same reef we called Lost Watch Reef so I could search for my watch while everyone else was diving. With coat hanger in hand I managed to find my Chronosport in a patch of reef and was able to pull it out without harming the reef. One of the happiest days of my life. Thanks for reminding me

I regret to say that i have been finding something quite disturbing.
More and more of the wrecks I have been diving are being defaced by grafeeti.
I suspect it is the illegal aliens swarming across the border. A wooden shipwreck, Niagara (West) River, near the Canadian marina. Very large, very old. Some rib and side plank on the current side of the wreck. Over the top, hand hewn beams approximately 12" x 12" parallel with ship ribs and perpendicular to bow to stearn beams beneath. At the time I didn't think much of it thinking eveyone knew it was there. So much wish I would have marked it....... t
