I have received my PADI O2 certification, yet some dive shops (READ EAST COAST) won't fill 100% 02 . Please tell us who will!!

Thanks

Are you looking for emergency 02? Research 02 suppliers - that's how I found and formed my relationship. My Doc was also willing to write a prescription for me if I could not find 02 on my own. Check around and check with your doctor.

This is because of the prescription law in MA that treats O2 as medicine. Dive shops wont fill it because they are afraid of breaking the law, and the ramifications of that. Medical supply houses will fill an emergency O2 bottle for you, however, they *MAY* require the Rx from a Doc.

Don't blame the dive shops, its the stupid laws in MA.

Actually, part of the reason for treating 02 as a prescription only medicine is that is makes it easier for those who actually require it for medical reasons to get it covered under Medicare/Medicaid/private insurance. True, it makes things annoying for divers, but my great-uncle on restricted income appreciates it. :)

My point is that there should be an exemption for scuba divers, getting O2 fills in a scuba cylinder should not be treated as medicine...

DougDiver:
Thank you for the advice. I haven't been into East Coast Divers in a while, not since the spring (when I first arrived!), but I did like the cat who was managing the store a lot. Actually gets out and dives with his customers. I hear he's not there anymore, though. A lot of my dive buddies up here are really bummed about that.

I haven't gone into PG Dive yet. I just saw a thread about that shop in this forum, actually. Otherwise I wouldn't have known it existed. Nice website!

I saw some posts in other threads here about some shops - it looks like some of you have some pretty strong opinions one way or the other about local shops, which is okay by me. I'm just curious as to how or why you came to yer conclusions. On the Virginia shore, a lot of folks ended up becoming loyal to just one store, not using different shops for different stuff the way y'all seem to. Which is cool, too, you know?

What about shops that are on the way up to the diving in Cape Ann? I was getting a fair amount of my fills at Cape Ann Divers (pretty convenient!), and a buddy of mine broke a mask at a dive site once and we went in there to get a new one.

I talked to Aaron at East Coast divers and he's helping me with the problem of not getting my certification card ( since Nov 8th.) He found it and is sending it to me finally..! I have to say that East Coast divers was a great shop to take the training with, very professional, nice people. I guess it was just one of those things that my cert card got lost there.
Many thanks to Aaron at East Coast divers! :bounce:
