That is the key to world peace, if there is going to be world peace.

There will be no (lasting) world peace until God creates a new Heaven and earth. Even the millenial Kingdom will be undone
after Satan is unbound and once again appeals to the baser side of human nature.

Fortunately, God (not Allah or Buddha or Vishnu or Kali ...)
has a plan for a lasting peace and He will not be thwarted.

Millenial Kingdom - edited to remove reference as to how the Bible doesnt corroborate it.

As for Satan, he was around in that day, this day and will always will this earth is still here cause temptation, straying from the way of light. As much as he might not have been a literal figure in the crowd or the garden or elsewhere as shown in the movie, you know his hand was also in it all to make the Jewish leaders (Sanhedrin not the Jewish multitude) hate Jesus that much to want to kill Him.

UP - I will try in the future to keep the discussion civil, lest judgement falls upon me ;)

Green_Manelishi and simbrooks (and what I say to one I say to all):

General discussions of religion as well as specific discussions of your eschatology are not appropriate for this thread.

IF you confine your discussion to the topic and IF the topic doesn't degenerate into disrespectful posts then you and this thread will be allowed to remain active.

If any of you are not wise enough to figure out what I mean by the above then take that as your cue not to post in this thread at all.

This is the second time I have written to you by way of warning. The next time judgment will come swiftly and linger not.

I didn't in fact wanted to tak part in this discussion.
There are only two things i would like to add:

1. The brutality - in the very beggining of this thread I warned you not to take children with you. As GDI wrote - Romans were brutal. On the other hand I think that Gibson did it in purpose - to remind everybody that Jesus was a human being and suffered pain as a human being
2. As anti - semitism. Well I live in the country that had and maybe still has a very sensitive (let's call it this way) mutual relations. Polish Episcopate together with the Jewish community had a chance to see the movie before it would be shown (which is going to be 5th March). I saw this movie on this restricted show. And at the very beggining one of the leaders of Polish Jews was shocked and started talking about anti - semitism. But couple of minutes later he admited that after all everything hapened in the Jewish territory and it was Sanhedryn who decided to give Jesus to the Romans. And he withdrew any anti - semitic accusation.

And as simbrook wrote - Sanhedryn was afraid of Jesus but on the politac basis - they were scared to lose their power over the Jews to Jesus. They were also afraid of jesus followers that could start some riots which would end up in really bloody intervention of Romans. So it's sometimes worth remembering that politics were and are everywhere.

For those of you who don't know much about the historical backgrounds of the NT I would recommend a book by Alfred Lapple - From the Genesis to NT. It's really interesting and helps to understand a lot of things.

Mea culpa.

When I was at a local scuba store, on Saturday afternoon, getting a refill after teaching my Saturday dive class, the topic of discussion there among the staff at the store was this movie. One of the store workers said, "Who would want to go see a movie called The Passion of Christ? Maybe I'm just not religious, but I can't see why a title like that would interest anyone."

I asked her, as I was watching the gauges while filling my tank, "Well, if the title was The Passion of Lucifer, would you go see it then?"

She replied, with a big smile, "Yah!"

Whatever floats your boat, I guess! :-)

Interestingly enough, however, had she gone to see The Passion of The Christ, she would have gotton to see an entire subplot with Lucifer in it. :-)

The appeal of the "dark side" and such is pretty strong, give anyone the chance to go and see something about the devil and you will get more takers than about Christ - its the way of the world - that is Satan is acting in all of us and tempting us. The response comes as no surprise to me and i am sure i would get the same my dive store, office almost anywhere but our local congregation - well possibly there, but only for educational purposes, not to realise what the devil has done and get emotional about following him though for sure.

Surprisingly enough i havent heard all that much about this film at my office, probably isnt brought up due to the PC attitude and multi-cultural thing, things like that are whispered about.

But heated discussions about religion or politics are prohibited.... Huh.... sounds familiar, eh ;)
I saw the smiley ;), but is this another moderator warning about airing my religious views?? Didnt realise i had even slipped this time.
