Online dive shops can be large, online-only stores. They have next to no overhead, and the service isn't nearly what you get from a local dive shop. Shipping will cost you a fortune when buying online, and if you ever have a problem, don't forget that you'll be paying the shipping back and forth to get it fixed.

Where do you get your fills? Local dive shops don't make any money off their fills. In fact, they make next to no money off classes in most places as well. So support your local dive shop or you could end up driving 100 km's for air!

Take care,

I thought it was "A fool and his money are soon partying"?

One of my other quotes :D

Can't believe this thread is still going........................and going......................and going..................

Just took the $200 I saved at leisurepro and spent $200 ($100 each) for a dive trip on Labor day for me and my girl.

If I didn't shop on the net I couldn't afford this Laborday dive trip or groceries, or my mortgage, or food, or wine.......................

You get the idea :out:

A fool and his money :-)

Buy what you expect to not need regular service (BDC, Bags, Fins) or is easily fixed online and things like regulators, lights, computers at the LDS. Your LDS will be happy to fix you BC should it need it if you bought something from him. If you didn’t expect big upcharges.

A reg bought on line often doesn’t have all the free parts available for the yearly service that the one at the store has. I kept a USD reg (bought it in one of their down turns in the early 80’s) alive for 20 years with the free yearly service. If I missed one it was a sick amount I would have had to pay. It died finally and I watch for the deals to happen again.

Truly, the guy should be happy to have the business. If he decides to gouge, there are other dive shops!

I'm sorry, but today's consumer ensures they get the most value for their dollar. Whether it's the servicing or the product, they're not going to prepay either... that's just dumb. If I can get a reg with free parts for $500, but the same reg costs $250 w/o free parts and the parts kit is worth $25, it will take 10 years to recover that... you know what $250 is worth over 10 years? Considering inflation and the interest that would be paid on it, probably close to a couple grand.
