I think i already mentioned this in one of the posts related to computers. Maybe not.

But
I just spoke with sales guys from one of UK based website. Their price for Vyper ( computer ) is about LP price. And they are certified dealers of SUUNTO. So i think the prev. post is pretty close to truth.

I recent bought some items (camera) from leisure pro and on speaking to a guy i trust in one of my LDS (Divers Direct) - who has shown some concern about various questions i have asked about diving in general and even offered to help me find things outside/away from the store if what i really wanted wasnt found there as he knows some other stores not connected with DD. Well anyway, i was looking into the pricing of a BP/wings setup, from various threads on this site suggesting they would be a good investment for most divers, and found that, surprisingly enough, leisure pro offers a considerable discount on LDS's for the same gear.

This guy also has this type of gear from Dive-Rite and like i said, could help me find things thru his other contacts, but he suggested that buying thru leisure pro you wouldnt get the manufacturers warranty - it wont be honoured by Dive-Rite. Does anyone have any experience of this? Is this case only with certain manufacturers annoyed that someone is selling for very discounted prices?

I have tried to claim on warranties for cars in the past and found that they werent worth the paper that they were written on (always some loophole they can get out with!:upset: ). Are diving gear warranties really worth anything? Can you easily claim on them (assuming you are still alive) if something is bad? Hopefully this wont ever happen, but its nice to know you have a come back if something goes wrong.

Do a search for LP warr. They usually offer as good as mfg warr. Call them or go to website and get a copy of their warr. if your not comfortable with it. If you don't like it buy it from LDS....as simple as that.

Many of us have purchased from them and trust their warr. and have had no problems with it.

I can't really comment on Leisure Pro but for cameras in general carefully review the warranty. Many online camera purchases do not include a U.S. warranty. However in some cases a U.S. warranty can be purchased at an additional charge.

Thank you for the very quick response, i guess by putting leisure pro in the title and knowing that many people buy their stuff from there, that it would attract peoples attention! I am not fishing either, just generally curious as i have had troubles with warranties, not that i have had that many things bust on me, but most of those that do, i get nothing for.

As for the constructive comment "If you don't like it buy it from LDS....as simple as that.", i take it you were writing in haste, the tone sounds offensive, but i understand your meaning behind it. I understant my options, but after the comment i received from this guy at the store, it got me wondering. I havent checked the warranty on the sealife camera i bought at LP, cant really open/unseal the box of an xmas gift!

Am i to take it that anything bought from LP is under the LP warranty and nothing is honoured by the original manufacturer - i will check out the website soon just to check around - i had only really looked at the stuff being sold, assuming that the manufacturers' warranties were still in place, as you would expect from almost any store in the world. This online commerce thing is good most of the time, but a headache when it goes wrong!

Thanks again, please correct me when i am wrong, i have plenty to learn about dive gear, still on have the basics in non life supporting equipment, the other bulk purchases are to come and i would like to be clued up as much as possible when i make those decisions.

Sorry to be so blunt. Did not mean to offend its just really that simple. I believe it also depends on the price differential as to whether I buy from LP or not. There are times when a LDS can get quite close to LP pricing or the difference is negligible so go LDS. If quite large, then I think one has to strongly consider LP. Example - Bought my reg from LP. Saved about 45%. If something goes bad and LP does not warrant then I buy another. I don't have much more in it than if I had bought from LDS. Computer was same way. Almost 2 for the price of one but you have to have the attitude that you might get stung. I have not been and many on this board have not been so make your decision and stick with it. Good Luck.

When I worked for Sony Corp, we delt all the time with "Grey Market" products. Products that were purchased overseas and imported to the USA by sellers and then resold. The seller is NOT and authorized dealer. The manufacturer does not offer or honor warranties on these items.

Leisure Pro advises on its website that the MFG does not warranty the product it sells. LP offers its own warranty.

Does the mfg honor its warranties on products purchased from "Authorized Dealers"? My experience is YES. I had a BC that was 2 years old when it developed a very small pin hole. The MFG (DACOR) replace it with a brand new and improved BC, no questions, no hassels.

Hey Melv

Exactly what in the world is your point? Were not talking about Sony and were not talking about grey market products...even if we were, there is nothing wrong with grey market products anyway. What, you think the europeans get the rejects and us superior Americans have higher quality standards and we get only the good stuff? In my book if LP offers a warranty why do I care if I have the Mfg.'s warranty. And again, we all know that LP is not an authorized dealer.

Hi Simbrooks:

I just purchsed two computers from LP and they are giving me a two year warranty on them. I realize a warranty is only as good as the company behind it, but I've read several posts on this Board from people who bought products from LP and had good experiences when they made claims against their warranty.

And with the money I saved over the price my LDS wanted to charge me, I can buy another identical computer in the event one of mine breaks and LP does not honor its warranty. So keep all these things in mind when you are thinking about worst case scenarios.

Simon

Since many of the items sold buy LP are grey market items, what it really comes down to is do you feel comfortable with the warranty LP is offering. Or do you want to have a manufactures warranty.

You said you were looking at a back plate & wing. If this is diverite stuff, then yes it is grey market, and not covered under the manufactures warranty. http://www.diverite.com/dealers/warning.htm
