Some 'jerks' have also proven to be masters at what they do, it is a personality thing (note: I did not say flaw) that should not prohibit learning from them. Being able to manage interacting with many personalities is a contribution to ones character.
I disagree ... but admit it's a matter of personal choice.

If someone isn't smart enough to figure out how to interact with others without being a jerk about it, they have nothing to offer me ... regardless of their knowledge or experiences. I choose not to be an "enabler" for that personality type ... it only encourages the behavior. There are always other ways to obtain the information they may be able to offer.

and What makes them able to judge what is DIR or not?

according to sentiments and posts here: T1/C1 and above.............:D
How many Mods have that? None, I think.

Aye, there's the rub.

I think I can adjudicate the basic questions . . . Yes, a 7' hose is useful in open water diving. When things get more complicated, like some of the questions Richard listed, I'll probably sit back and let people duke it out.

I WISH we had a T1/C1 (or better!) mod for this forum . . .

and when it is all said and done, that "conversation" will actually be more educational. IMO

Probably wouldn't stop the controversy anyways. ;)

Then talk sweet to RJack :)
Give him some basic etiquette lessons, and he'd be (almost) presentable !

I actually think the most important part of the moderation is wading into personal attacks and pure nastiness (for some reason, in general, people tend to act in ways online that they never would face to face).

yes, it can be bad when someone with little or no knowledge jumps in and says something is DIR when it is not the case, but that is a harder problem to solve.

Ha! I'd need a Gun and a cat. Talk to RTodd, he doesn't need finishing school like me.
