It was a beautiful day diving the BHB today! We saw all kinds of cool things, and Tracy took lots of pics. However, when we went back to retrieve my tied up dive flag, it was gone. It was well anchored under a heavy barrel and rock, so it couldn't have 'floated away." We stayed close to shore on the way in, and soon other divers and free divers were under the water giving us the "thumbs up." We surfaced, to find a sheriff asking where our dive flag was. Luckily, he believed us when we told him that we had one anchored and that it wasn't where we left it when we tried to retrieve it. I'm really glad that I didn't have my reel attached to the flag. I don't mind losing a rope and spindle, but wouldn't be happy losing my reel! Looking forward to Tracy posting the pics she took!

I have left my flag south side middle bridge about 20 feet out & used a double brass clip to wrap it around a pipe & tie it back to itself. I never had a problem. Now I carry it & drop it close to where I am & check on it regularly. However, once it diappeared to the top of the bridge but the fisherman returned it when I surfaced. This is why I bought the cheap plastic handle so my reel doesn't take a hike. But it makes me wonder why was he casting straight out to where it was which was almost at the buoys on the north side of the little bridge. I certainly hope this doesn't get worse when construction starts & we are ALL gathered on the WEST side. This is the 2nd time I've heard of the sheriff checking on dive flags. I can't remember who the other person was but they got a citation & fine!

That tears it. I'm carrying a Glock down next time. :)

If you don't have one with you just look around under the bridge. We have found "throw away" guns before. Although I don't think I would want to use a gun that may be a murder weapon......

I've had a fisherman snag my flag on purpose before (West Span North Side). I pulled as much line off his reel as I could and cut it. I've not seen the turkeys on the East Span trying to hook the dive flag. I would absolutely pull his butt in the water if I could. I would surely take his hook from him.

Marc and I had a nice dive at Blue Heron today.
There was a sailfin blenny, upsidedown jelly, sea robin, yellowmouth jawfish...

The photos are up on flickr and facebook.

There are mulitple pictures because I couldn't decide which one was best.
Feel free to vote on your favorite and I will get rid of the extras.

I think you need a Yahoo account (like email) to use flickr.
You don't have to use the email, just remember login and the password.

I forgot to mention there were about 300 moon jellys between the life guard station and the low bridge. Well, 300 might be low. Say 1000? There were 300 in one spot!

Yeah, we experienced that last Saturday. But when I dove the BHB on Tuesday, only saw two. And now they're back, go figure. :shakehead:
