I'd LIKE to think I could see that little guy uw, but it might be iffy. Thanks so much for your pic. I will be looking. That quarter looks large enough to be an entire living space for the nudi.:cool2:

That's one big eel, Paul! Thanks for posting!

Interesting to see the eel is still around. I was verysurprised when I saw it about a month ago, but haven't seen it the last few times I've been at the bridge.

Was anyone else at the night dive this past saturday? While part of the dive when we were not under the bridge was fun, once we were under the bridge it was a mad-house! Couldn't escape people shining their lights in your eyes. I don't think I'll be participating in an advertised weekend night dive there again! Too much of a CF.

Also some yahoo was carrying around a pole-spear. I confronted him about it and reminded him of the spearfishing regulation (no spearfishing near fishing piers/bridges) and let him know if FWC caught him with it there he'd be busted. I thought he got out of the water but unfortunately saw him again later with it.

Maybe he wanted to eradicate lionfish?

That is not what he said when I talked to him. He claimed he was using it to stick in the sand for stability, of course he didn't have a camera, and it had a flopper tip and band on it.

Regardless of intent it clearly is against regulations, and having a spear on a super-crowded night dive where people were constantly running into you because they don't look where they are going is a bad idea.

On another note, Saturday morning we saw 9 lionfish in 2 dives out of Pompano.

OH NO they are really taking over!!!

BTW, UnderSeas Sports Fort Lauderdale carries the Foldspear, and Gold Coast Scuba Fort Lauderdale is going to start carrying them. I like that they are discreet and you don't have to actually carry them in your hand, they stay in a nice carrier on your leg. Other than lionfish, the only thing I want to shoot marine life with is my Canon A630.

WOW!! Did anyone else on the dives indicate whether that is the norm?????

We were on a 6-pack, and the 2 people in the other group hadn't seen any, but yes people have been seeing them a lot more this year.

To bring this back on topic, on this thread there have been some reported at BHB.

I picked one up last weekend at Scuba Works and was able to dispatch 3 of the 9 we saw. The smaller ones were much more difficult to hit (rock tip with flopper removed) and became very wary after a miss...so I'll probably be switching to a paralyzer tip or something similar.

That being said due to the regulations I wouldn't bring it to the bridge, I'd just let someone know that could legally collect/dispatch them.
