I used Coleman's book as a reference for my Dive Con course. I have to recomend the NOAA Diving Manual also.

Just one step away from my Dive Con card.

When was the 2nd edition of Deeper Into Diving released? Is it fairly current? Thanks.
Very new. Released in Australia in December or January, I believe. In the USA in April, I think.

Hi everybody. Of course, I've been following this most excellent thread, and there's a bit of news regarding the book. It will be released in Spanish by Paidotribo in Spain. They've asked me to update a few things, and the domestic publisher wants the updates as well for a possible second edition. If the second edition actually happens, I'll announce it here and hopefully get some ideas from Scubaboard participants on how to make diving easier, cheaper, and more accessible. Thanks to all who have posted.

I don't have a copy of Deeper Into Diving, but since today is my birthday, I'll go out and look for a copy. -Clay

namabiru:
So I just finished perusing Clay Coleman's "The Certified Diver's Handbook", and thought to be quite an amusing read. While one can argue that it's quite opinionated at times (sometimes a little too much, I thought), it seemed like a good book for beginning divers who aren't quite sure what's going on. In other ways it was a review of the Padi Open Water manual, with its discussion of ocean theory, currents, etc.

The equipment section contained some solid information about what to look for when purchasing equipment, but the information could have been presented in a little more "easy reading" format. For instance, a summary at the end in the form of charts--or at least a bulleted list- would have been useful. Therefore, a user looking to use the source as a reference could easily find the essential information instead of having to pick back through the anecdotes (which were amusing, don't get me wrong) and opinions.

Has anyone else read this work? What other works do you recommend?

I was given the book "Snorkeling & SCUBA Diving For Dummies" for Christmas. It was definately a recap of the PADI OW course book, with perhaps a bit more detail in some subjects. It was opinionated here & there, but done with a sense of humor. I happen to like reads with a sense of humor, so I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I also keep my OW & AOW handbooks handy as back- ups if I need to look up any information.

You might also look at any of the airspeedpress books that are in your realm of interest. http://www.airspeedpress.com

Dress for success is coming up soon on my list of books to buy as well.

I've also started putting Diving videos into my library. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words ... so how many words is 30 pictures/second?

Aloha, Tim

Happy Birthday Clay and thank you for an excellent resource for divers
