I think this has been explored elsewhere on Scubaboard, but I don't recall where, nor do I recall the outcome, but: If you loan a friend some equipment, and it has problems, contributing to an accident, are you liable?
 
Now that's the $64 question (as opposed to the $500 one).


In America, the answer is of course yes, you can and likely would be named in a lawsuit; whether they prevailed is another matter, but there is no refund on the checks you write to your defense attorney!

Divers should buy their own gear if they are serious, or rent it from a regular rental outfit, and keep friends just that - friends!
