:shakehead: didn't see the pole with the bright green square on it?

That boat had to be going seriously fast to get that piling that far into the hull! I'm Impressed!

It probably happened at night, if he had no forward lighting it might not have been so obvious, but, then again, you would think.

I certainly hope nobody was killed or seriously hurt.

Is this the one that the lieyer wanted to sue the boat manufacturer because it did not have seat belts and air bags?

the unstoppable force met the non moving object

That looks very much like one of the markers for Back Creek, Annapolis. We used to keep our boat there. Lots of craziness from boaters, not just on holidays. It was amusing to sit on the boat and watch the show.

Google found a little more info on it. It was in Cheaspeake Bay

Believe it or not but that boat was repaired and was listed for sale on offshore only.com.

Chesapeake Bay to be exact , Biggus

Baltimore Sun, 9/18/2000 - from a column by Dan Rodricks: "Will There Be A III ?"

Temporary Insanity II Impaled on Channel Marker
Near Bay Bridge Marina on Kent Island: Just before 2 a.m., a 1992, 38-ft. Fountain power boat slammed into a fixed, channel marker, ripping a 17-ft. gash in the forward hull & becoming impaled on the steel piling holding the channel marker. A passenger suffered a broken arm & lacerations; a passing boater rescued the two men. DNR police cited the skipper, who "claimed to have been blinded by the lights of a sailboat", for negligence, traveling at an unsafe speed, & failure to maintain a proper lookout.

.

from another thread/board
An alert couple, M.&F. Lobach, happened to visit the Bay Bridge Marina when Temporary Insanity II was being hauled, after the impalement. They reported the boat as a 42-ft. Fountain, otherwise their story matched the Sun's above. The Mariner of September 22, 2000, p.11 reproduced their pictures of Temporary Insanity II.

It's about as crazy as this....

There is ignorance, and then there is our friend here. "Bobby Ballast", the human tie-down, is about all that is keeping his canoe in the bed of this pickup...well... except for his dog. This unbelievable photo was taken by a Florida police officer.

of course, sometimes scuba divers aren't that much smarter..... :shakehead:

Of course learning to properly strap down your boat, and set your parking brake on a boat ramp are essential also
