I will... I just have to do it when no one is looking... you understand

Shoot....
That won't work.... DIR won't let me dive solo!
Arrgggghhh....
Harumf...

OK.. some dark night.... but not tonight...

Hey - no problem, you want to fly me over and organise a dive, I'll tow you the first 50m, no problems :) Can you wait til the end of the year when I've finished CDAA Cavern course though?

What I meant was that in some circumstances powerful fins are actually more useful than a Scooter. My only experience with a scooter was with one that I could definately outswim over a short distance... but it was an old scooter, so I was wondering if newer, better scooters had useful acceleration?

Oh - and I warrant that I'll be alive and kicking for my lifetime...

I've had Quattros forever it seems. They work, but I've always wanted to get back my Jets for wreck penetrations. For the last several years, I've told myself "this is the year I'm going to get some Turtles", but something of higher importance seems to come up. Maybe next month .

I agree that scooters are not the tool for every situation...
And I don't know what the speed of the Gavin is... it has nine speeds and we usually run on the lowest setting... speed isn't the deal... distance is.

And are you sure you can make 5+ knots for 50 mteres??!!

They are fun no doubt about it, and you can cover some serious ground but they are not for everything. Shane and have only had ours a short time and we haven't even taken them to where we really want to go yet. We take them up to Canada and the folks on the boat were nice enough to let us use them. We really only took them on one of the dives because we just wanted to putz around on the others. We will be diving Deception Pass on the 23rd and I want to take them there. Do a web search on Deception Pass and you will see what we are going to do.

Nah - I'm cheating.

In the pool I can do 50m in 30 seconds underwater with fins - but that's with just speedos on - I couldn't do it geared up. I'm also in pretty serious oxygen debt when I finish...

50m in 30 secs
10 minutes per km
6 km per hour
3.2 knots

Oops - I even stuffed up the maths when I did it quickly in my head... had 600 seconds = 6 minutes... bit dumb really

I'd need to do 50m is 20 secs to make 5 knots... don't think I can manage that :)

Ever so humble
Mike
