Perhaps. I sent an email from my work to his AOL account. I never got a response. I'd pe interested in knowing what wrecks he goes to and their depths. Right now we go up to Milwaukee to dive on the Nordic Diver for the deep stuff.

Jason,

PM me your email address and I'll send you a PDF of the course outline.

Is there something available that shows what you do in the course, skills required etc....?

Sure - me. :)

Bookwork = lots of review about the physics of gases under pressure, procedures & techniques for handling high O2 content gases, Navy & Buhlman deco tables & dive planning, Pile stops, required gear & set up, etc.

And of course since it's Dale, Hogarthian gear philosophy. :)

Practice = lots of dive planning, SAC (surface air consumption) personal calculations & dive planning based on SAC, safety drills including disconnecting/reconnecting gear while UW, air sharing, tank valves on/off UW, deco stops, lift bag deco, etc all while attempting to maintain your buoyancy.

Yep, this is a challenging course!

Did I miss anything significant?

I don't get on this forum much. Also I don't think I have ever posted to it before - just lurked occasionally.

I am sorry that you, PPO2 Diver, could not get in touch with me. You can email me at dale@cataindales.com You can phone me at 847-640-8113. I teach Advanced Nitrox and Deco Procedures together unless the students already have one or the other. I usually also teach Trimix (normixic) and Advanced Trimix (hypoxic). Many times these courses are combined as well. Advanced Wreck Diving is my favorite course and is really quite involved.

Send me a private email and your phone number and I will send you an outline of the TDI requirements of the course you want to take. I want your phone number also because the TDI outline is a bit sketchy and I tailor each class to the students. The exercises, safety drills and academics will be different, based on the experience and skills of each group of students I have in a class, while still meeting the TDI standards. This level of instruction does not work the same way as a "cookie cutter" recreational class.

Jason asked specifically about the Advanced Nitrox Course. According to the TDI instructor manual, there are no lift bag deco, deco stops, and valve drill skills required. The manual states that the student can dive in recreational gear. The skills you mentioned are part of the deco procedures course. The primary skill for the Adv Nitrox course is dive planning. This is just to quote the instructor manual. It's not what I would recommend. So don't kill the messenger. :) Of course, my manual could be out of date. It is dated July 2003. So things could have changed, but I haven't seen any updates.

That's the problem. I closed my old AOL account about a year ago. My present email address is dale@captaindales.com

We make regular dives on the SS Wisconsin. The Wisconsin is a freightor/passenger steamer that sunk in 1929. She is 215 feet long and rests in 128 feet of water. Penetration is an advanced technical wreck dive.

We also dive the Rosinco. She is a large steel motor yacht that also sank in 1929. he rests in 185 feet of water off of Kenosha and is a tri-mix dive.

We will also do the wrecks in the Milwaukee area when we can make a weekend of it. The long Labor Day weekend has traditionally found us in Milwaukee. We will be there again this year.

You are quite right about the course requirements for Advanced Nitrox. Most instructors usually combing this course with Decompression procedures because, for most divers, that makes the most sense. One exception would be the diver who is not interested in deep or decompression diving, but wants to learn the skills and technical considerations of advanced nitrox diving in preparation for rebreather diving. I would, however, recommend the combined course fto them, also.
