In order to prevent PLE (polymorphic light eruption, or photosensivity), is going to the tanning booth a good idea to prepare the skin for tropical sun exposure? If it is, hos long before the trip, and what exposure durations and increments yield the best benefits and are the safest? I will be complementing with plenty of beta-carotene.
Thanks

I have very fair skin and my 1st trip to Bonaire resulted in sun poisoning. From then on I have gone tanning starting 1 month before leaving for my dive trip. Go slow - start out at 10 minutes and stay at that for the 1st week(every other day). Gradually increasing minutes as long as you are not getting burnt. Iam usually able to get to 20 minutes by the last week and have a good base by then.

Good luck!
Martin

Is that the same as being "allergic to the sun"? I have a co-worker whose husband tans year-round for a sun allergy.

My wife and I take "Tanning Lessons" before each trip. We usually start a month or two before we leave.

Hey, we look good, feel good and don't have a couple days of vacation ruined by sunburn. :crafty:
