So I was lucky enough to get a couple of Blue Steel 80's for Christmas :D. Does anybody know where I can get valve caps for these that won't split in a day? Seems like the valves on these tanks are just too big for the standard caps that the dive shops sell.

blue tape....... see, it even has the same "brand" name.... must have been intended to go together...

Are they din???? buy din plugs.

How I understand it (and bare with me, I'm fairly new) is that they were made with DIN valves, but the dive shop put yoke converters in them.

That's a standard blue steel valve. Here's yor next quandary. Do your yokes fit on them? See, they are really designed for DIN, and with the converters in them, many yoke regulators have too small of an "a-clamp" to go on the valve, which is also why your caps don't fit them.

Your solution, as rhwestfall said is to use 1" blue painters tape on the face of the valve to indicate it's state of fill. If the tape is still on, it's full. If the tape has been removed, it's something besides full, or may be full too.

It's what all of us coolio tech divers do. Folks will mistake you for a coolio tech diver. Bonus. :D

Lose the yoke plugs and convert your regs to DIN. You won't regret it.

Yes, but she will still have to cover her valve faces with blue painter's tape. :D

There is one downside to what Frank said. If you get mistaken for a coolio tech diver, you'll also have to change your gear over to all black.

In all seriousness, I second the painters tape

The rubber caps are made for the std. yoke only valves. The convertible valves like you have are deeper for the din connection. The blue tape many use is painters tape because it will not leave a sticky residue on the valve and comes off easily.
