Hi fellow divers, my first post here .. :cool3:
I have a reoccurring problem with my new tank's valve blowing O-rings. I use Al80 tank rated 3000psi, but my operator over fills it to 3500!!:acclaim: could this be the reason it is blowing o-rings?? the o-ring lasts approx 10 minutes before it blows off, I've changed 3 O-rings in 30 min. So .. any idea what could be the problem? Its a new valve and a good DIN regulator. And BTW, I don't have this problem with my other tank which I bought together. Please HELP:depressed::depressed:

Al

It's a DIN valve? Which O-ring? Are you putting lube on the o-ring? 3500 is an overfill, but shouldn't cause o-rings to blow out.

Blow out O-ring with a din? So that's your reg? Your tank valve is what? K? The problem must be with your adaptor..

First and most important, where are you getting those fills? :D
Nice problem to have.

The rest of your post makes no sense. Din valves have no o-rings. Tank valve o-rings are only on yoke valves for yoke regulators. Which are you talking about?

If it's a yoke valve you can try a 90 duro polyurethane o-ring. That's about the most extrusion resistant o-ring you'll find. 3500 PSI on a yoke valve is pretty high, lots of people use them with no problems, but DIN is considered more reliable for high pressures.

Hello Al,

Welcome to Scuba Board.

Try to post a picture of the regulator and tank with the o-ring after it has extruded.

I'm going to presume (never ass-u-me...) that you're talking about a yoke valve on an AL80 tank here. Depending on the make of the valve, the o-ring in it is going to be either a #13 or a #14. If you're putting a 13 in a valve designed for a 14, it'll fit, and it'll hold for a while, but it'll eventually blow. I don't think a 14 will fit into a 13 valve.

There are three sizes of o-rings for a DIN regulator: #111, 112, and Poseidon's oddball size. If that o-ring is blowing, take the reg to a service tech and let him figure it out. Usually those o-rings just leak and hiss, indicating that they never seales up in the first place. It's much more difficult to put the wrong size o-ring in a DIN reg than it is to put it on a yoke tank valve.

Overfilling a yoke tank is playing with fire. I'd bet that your yoke adapter says something like "3300psi" or "207 bar" on it. Keep using the overfilled tanks at your own risk.

Hope this helps a little.

To be honest, given that you are having a problem with so many different converter plugs, I would bet that your problem is something else. Except for Poseidon, you should either find that a 2-111 or a 2-112 o-ring fits. I the leaks continue on converter after converter, while trying both o-rings, I would look somewhere else for the cause.

Hi everyone,
Please excuse my ignorance but it looks like I've made a big mistake here because I am confused. My connector is a YOKE type and not DIN :D as I've previously indicated. Picture attached.:lotsalove:
But I'm truly overwhelmed by the amount of response and information I've received just for posting this problem. You guys are amazing .. a truly genuine forum. keep it up.
Now back to my problem, would someone explain to me what I'm doing wrong with my YOKE connection tank? is it over filling that is causing the o-ring problem?
Thanks,

Is the nut that holds the yoke on the first stage loose? make sure the yoke is all the way back toward the first stage. If its not all the way back then the seat on your regulator won't be flush against the O ring.

I had a similar problem last weekend on my tank. Turned out to be the wrong size o-ring. The LDS put the ring in when it was filled, it kept blowing out when I attached the first stage and pressurized it.

Put the right o-ring in and all was well.
