My first choice would be a rented AL80.

My second choice would be an AL80 that you bought.

Unless you do quite a bit of diving, owning your cylinder is a matter of convenience, not economics.

Use the AL80 until you have a chance to figure out what you really want to use. The most expensive cylinder is the one you never use, so be sure before you spend your money.

I forgot to chime in...

I have an ex-rental/class Catalina aluminum 90 that I picked up used from my LDS a year or so after I got my OW. It's now about 15 years old (first hydro date of 1/89) but seems to be doing fine. I probably could have bought a new 80 for not much more, but I'm not too concerned. It certainly has been a convenience for me.
