I'm cutting up some old landscape timber to make some tank chocks, and was wondering if anyone happened to know the circumference of a standard AL80? (In the middle, not at the boot or neck).

I'm hitting the dive shop tomorrow, so if noone knows this evening its no biggy :)

Say... how about a nice collapsible tank roll preventer??

Take several 18" lengths of 2" PVC pipe and drill 1/2" holes about 2" in from each end. Tie them together with rope so that they can be seperated by six inches or so (experiement.) With two pipes you can keep one tank from rolling. With three pipes you can keep two tanks from rolling. With four... well you get the idea.

When you are not keeping tanks from rolling take your little contraption, roll it up and throw it behind the pickup seat.

Make it long enough and I suppose it could work as an emergency escape ladder for your upstairs bedroom but that is probably way too many tanks to be hauling.

Yeah, I saw a similar design to that in a Rodale's review. Its a great design (esp. for y'all with trucks), but I can only fit 2 tanks in my car, and my main concern is sliding, with rocking into the other tank/spare tire/jack a close second

I heard them clanking around back there on the 2hr trip to New Braunsfels, and a new SAT question came to mind...

A car, barreling down the road at 80mph is carrying two tanks of compressed air (AL80, 2700psi) in its trunk, valves forward. If the car hits a brick wall and stops in 1/10 second:

1) What is the sheer force on the tank stems
2) Will the tanks launch themselves out the car and into traffic
3) Will the driver be alive to notice?

Thanks for the tip, Pug :) I might end up building as you describe, but I _do_ love to use my new saw...

Safe diving,
Jeff
