Using your logic, should we not post a dive trip on a national forum so no one in Alaska feels left out? How about international? We would not want to offend anyone in Botswana! If people are coming from far away, do I have to put them up in my house? Where does it end?

By posting in the Tampa forum, I am focusing on people in my area, whom I can reasonably expect to dive with more than once. But I am not being exclusive; I also welcome transients passing through the area. I have hosted divers from other states and Europe, invited vacationers staying in the area, etc. It all depends on the repor I can develop and the level of trust and confidence I can establish before actually accepting someone on board.

I haven't yet mentioned the costs I incur in order to have a boat to dive from. Throw in the cost of the boat, maintenance, insurance and the like and I am looking several hundred dollars per trip, my money, without even looking at the cost of fuel. Throw in dock and seawall maintenance, the cost of waterfront real estate, elevated homeowners and flood insurance, and now your looking at several THOUSAND dollars per trip. Just so I can have a boat in the backyard to dive from. I think I have the right to decide where my posting goes.

ASK NOT WHAT YOUR FRIEND WITH A DIVE BOAT CAN DO FOR YOU, ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR FRIEND WITH A DIVE BOAT!!!!:usa:

(Where's the insert button for patriotic music, anyway??.....)

Looks like you took the board down again, Chip (Arrogant SOB  )

Walter:
Sorry Darlin', but that's not exactly what happened. A vote was taken that depending on how one read it could mean many different things. While it was clarified, it was not clarified until after the voting had been going on for about a day. The vote is not valid and cannot be used to show that a majority of folks (who were likely not just Conchs, but probably came from all over) felt one way or the other about this issue. While I would like to see one forum for Florida, I would prefer it to come about as the result of a legitimate vote. I would prefer to be on the losing side of a legitimate vote than to be on the winning side of one conducted as this one was. I protested the vote while it was taking place more than once and was ignored.

:yelclap: Again, I understood it to be there would be one dive calendar. So "Mary" or "Joe" could look at the calendar and say, "hey, Tampa is gathering. I think I may go over to that club and join in". Not a thread in the main forum and one in the club forum as well. I mean come on...

Again, I really think we should have waited for El to return or get another un-biased mod to have a look at this mess. It has become very skewed.

Like Walter, I will work with whatever is decided wether I agree with it or not. I have always worked with what was put in place. Right now though this feels like a runaway train.

Boy is this becoming a hostile place. I was considering joining but then there was the change, with the voting all in confusion. Now there is all this telling everyone they are doing things wrong and they are the only ones that are right, Geez!

When we had a central section a lot of the springs diving was posted in that and helped get people together, me being one. It wasn't posted on the main, it was posted in the Central Florida Forum. It makes sense for peeps (get that MisD) living in an area to post where they want to and not be moved all around by someone wishing to "BE Right" and state the rules.

Enough of this. You are driving people away from the forum, me included! This type of hostility just drives people away and I think the changes made have aready done some of that. This is a hobby, meant to have fun. When any aspect of it doesn't remain fun, then you walk away from that part of it.

I have kids that live in Tampa and was looking at what was going on as far as dives and everyone getting together and enjoying it. Actually thinking of joining in sometime.

Knock it off!

My .02.

It was a valiant effort ONESPEED. Not sure anyone can counter the effects of some of the sarcastic responses made towards MD though
