I am trying to find out what and if they do charge for extra baggage. It says on their terms that you are allowed 25 pounds per person. I know our dive bags alone will weight more than that.
I just don't want to be in for surprises when I go to check in.
Any information would be wonderful.
Thanks,
Lynn

To a great extent it depends on where you are "checking in", On the US mainland or in Central America.

If you bought through a broker or agent, they can give you printed terms.

Here's the scoop per their website:
Economy Class
Carry-on baggage: 1 piece weighing up to 22lbs/10Kgs, and measuring up to 45in/114cm.

Checked baggage permitted: 2 pieces, each weighing up to 50lbs/22Kgs and measuring up to 62in/157cm.

Baggage pieces that weigh between 51lbs/22Kg and 70lbs/31Kg, and measure up to 62in/157cm, have an additional charge of US$50 each.

Baggage pieces weighing more than 70lbs/31Kg, but less than 100lbs/45Kg; or measuring between 63in/160cm and 85in/215cm, are considered standby bags and have an additional charge of US$100 each. In this case, if the same bag is both, overweight and oversized, only one charge will apply.

Read about the new charges for overweight and oversized baggage, effective June 15th, 2009, here: Taca.com

I have not booked my Taca flights and I am booked to Honduras on American which allows the two bags. Not sure what you mean by a broker. I was just going to book Taca online but do I need to have someone else do it so the baggage will be allowed? I haven't even thought that our bags on AA will not go all the way to Roatan..
Thanks

Once you check in as a domestic passenger with Taca or Islena they will probably charge you for the second 50lb bag. I can't remember the charge, they should include the luggage restrictions with your booking info. Whatever happens you can be sure that they will stick with the letter of the law and won't hesitate to charge for any excess baggage.

How would I find out what the baggage charge is?

it's all right on their web site, exactly what RoatanMan quoted. It says nothing about domestic.
Taca.com

It also notes a change in fees effective 6/15.

got it ... thanks...
