I've been going out snorkeling a little lately with non-diving friends and family. I'm trying to find some new sites to check out, preferably within Sydney - any further and it's worth taking the whole scuba kit. Boat access isn't a problem.

The first 2 which come to mind are...

1) Shelly Beach/Fair Bower
ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting

2) Reef Beach
ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting

Any more suggestions for fairly accessible, reasonably shallow sites for a bit of an afternoon snorkel around Sydney?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Around Bare Island depending on conditions there is usually something sheltered. A large stingray nursery on the Congwong land wall side. Fair bit to see along the rock ledges.

Oak Park is another good site just on the outside of the ocean pool

headland at harbord is great... conditions need to be right to get away from the pesky spear fishermen though.

Check out Covelly Beach - inbetween Tamarama and Coogee I believe. Loads of fish around there!

Hey Simon... You will really enjoy the amazing things that can be found here in Sydney. I have been diving, snorkelling and all round living every spare moment in the ocean here in Sydney for over 10 years now. I LOVE IT!

I have a great webpage that has lots of 'Dive Sites' on it from around Sydney. This in mind, every dives site we go to is extremly great snorkelling.

Check it out: Sydney Dive Sites

You will see rating of the sites for difficulty, and we go through and show you access points etc... I hope you like it.

One of Sydney's best spots for marine biodiversity is Shiprock Marine Reserve. it was the 1st marine reserve in Australia. It must be snorkeled on high tide, so you usually have around 1 hour to swim there. It is really amazing.

Check it out here: ShipRock - Abyss Scuba Diving

I know pretty much every site in Sydney, so if you need any particular info about any of them just look me up on facebook and send me a PM.

Cheers mate.

Posted same thing 2 times. Sorry guys. :)
